Korean Stocks Are Crashing
Samsung and SK Hynix are under serious selling pressure, and I wouldn’t rush to buy just because their prices look cheaper.
On October 13, Samsung fell 7.39%, SK Hynix dropped 10.09%, and South Korea’s KOSPI closed down 5.46%. The sell-off reflects growing concerns about AI investment, stronger Chinese memory-chip competition, and whether the sector’s high growth expectations can be sustained.
My view? I would wait for confirmation before buying aggressively.
Both companies are closely tied to the AI memory market, so the long-term opportunity hasn’t automatically disappeared. But the market is reassessing future growth, and even strong companies can fall further when investor expectations change.
I’d watch three things before making a move:
• Price stabilization: Are buyers finally stepping in, or are sellers still controlling the market?
• AI memory demand: Does demand for advanced memory remain strong enough to support future earnings?
• Competition: Can Samsung and SK Hynix defend their margins as Chinese manufacturers develop more advanced memory products?
There’s also an important distinction between a temporary panic and a fundamental change in the business outlook. A rebound could create an opportunity, but continued selling alongside weaker earnings expectations would make me more cautious.
Personally, I wouldn’t try to catch the exact bottom. I’d rather miss the first part of a recovery than enter blindly while the trend is still falling. If prices stabilize and the business outlook remains intact, gradual buying could be worth considering.
My conclusion: Watch the dip, but don’t chase it. The next opportunity will depend on whether the market finds support and confidence in the AI semiconductor story returns.
What would you do here: buy Samsung and SK Hynix at lower prices, wait for a confirmed rebound, or stay out until the market settles?
