#美股 #Gate股票 AI Chip Demand Meets the Next Earnings Test: Record Sales, EUV Orders and the 2027 Growth Outlook
The AI semiconductor trade is entering a critical checkpoint. TSMC has already reported record third-quarter revenue, while ASML is preparing to reveal whether demand for advanced chipmaking equipment is keeping pace with the industry’s expansion plans. The important question is no longer simply whether AI demand is strong today. It is whether that demand can sustain future orders, manufacturing margins and capital investment into 2027.
TSMC has delivered the first major signal. Its Q3 revenue reached NT$1.49 trillion, approximately $46.71 billion, up around 50% year over year and ahead of the NT$1.46 trillion analyst estimate. September revenue alone climbed 54.6% year over year to NT$511.86 billion. The quarterly result also exceeded TSMC’s previous revenue guidance of $44.6 billion–$45.8 billion. This performance reflects strong demand for advanced chips and AI-related manufacturing, but revenue growth is only the first part of the earnings story.
The next question is profitability. TSMC’s detailed earnings report is scheduled for October 15 at 14:00 Taiwan time. Its prior guidance called for a gross margin of 65%–67% and an operating margin of 56%–58%. Analysts cited by Reuters expect net profit of approximately NT$746.3 billion, up about 65% year over year. Investors will compare actual results against those expectations and examine whether higher production volumes are translating into stronger earnings after manufacturing costs and capacity investments.
Advanced-node demand is central to TSMC’s outlook. AI accelerators require increasingly capable manufacturing processes and advanced packaging, while demand from major technology customers creates pressure to expand production capacity. The market will watch management’s comments on 3-nanometre demand, advanced packaging capacity, customer orders and fourth-quarter revenue expectations. A stronger full-year growth outlook would support the argument that AI infrastructure spending remains durable; cautious guidance could raise questions about how much growth is already reflected in the stock.
ASML supplies the equipment that makes much of this advanced manufacturing possible. The company reports Q3 results on October 14 at 07:00 Central European Time, followed by its investor call at 15:00 CET. Its previous guidance projected quarterly revenue of €11 billion–€12 billion, gross margin of 55%–57%, and full-year 2026 revenue of €43 billion–€45 billion. These figures establish the baseline against which investors will judge the latest results.
For ASML, new bookings may be more revealing than revenue alone. Its Q2 results included €9.326 billion in sales and €2.918 billion in net income, while management reported extremely strong order intake in the first half of 2026. The company also outlined plans to increase low-NA EUV and DUV immersion capacity for 2027 as customers accelerate expansion. The next report must show whether new commitments continue to justify those production plans.
EUV lithography is a critical part of the long-term investment case because it enables manufacturers to produce increasingly advanced chips. Investors should monitor new EUV system orders, the order backlog, customer delivery schedules, High-NA EUV adoption and management’s view of demand for 2027. A strong backlog can provide future revenue visibility, but it does not eliminate execution risks, changing customer investment plans or the possibility that orders shift between quarters.
Capital expenditure links both companies. TSMC must invest in fabrication plants, advanced process technologies and packaging capacity to meet demand. ASML must expand equipment production and deliver increasingly sophisticated lithography systems. If chip demand remains strong and customers commit to new capacity, both sides of the supply chain can benefit. If customers become more cautious, equipment orders may weaken before the effect becomes visible in chipmakers’ revenue.
Three scenarios deserve attention.
Bullish: TSMC delivers strong profitability and confident forward guidance, while ASML reports healthy bookings and maintains its revenue outlook. That combination would reinforce the case for continued AI infrastructure investment into 2027.
Bearish: TSMC’s margins or guidance disappoint, or ASML reports weaker new orders despite meeting revenue expectations. Investors could begin questioning whether capital spending is keeping pace with realistic demand.
Mixed: TSMC confirms robust AI-chip demand while ASML’s bookings or longer-term outlook remain cautious. That would suggest current chip consumption is strong, but future capacity expansion may be less certain.
The market reaction also matters. A company can beat earnings estimates and still see its shares fall if investors expected an even stronger result. Watch ASML and TSM alongside semiconductor-sector performance, trading volume, analyst estimate revisions and management guidance not just the headline revenue figures.
TSMC’s $46.71 billion revenue record confirms powerful demand today, but ASML’s bookings and both companies’ forward outlooks will help determine whether that demand supports another year of expansion. The strongest evidence for a durable AI semiconductor cycle will be consistent orders, sustainable margins and credible capacity plans not record revenue in isolation.
