Zcash ($ZEC ) Rebounds After a Brutal Sell-Off: Is This a Recovery or Just a Temporary Relief Rally?

Zcash has entered a critical phase. After suffering a sharp sell-off on October 8, when its price dropped to approximately $1,113, ZEC began recovering on October 9. The token traded around $1,230 in the latest available market snapshot, showing that buyers are attempting to regain control after a significant liquidation of recent gains. The rebound is encouraging, but it does not yet confirm that the correction is over.

The Numbers Behind the Move

ZEC fell from the $1,300–$1,340 area to near $1,113 during the October 8 session, before recovering above $1,180. The latest available quote puts it near $1,230, with market data varying by provider and timestamp. The key takeaway is that volatility has increased sharply, and traders should distinguish the previous session's decline from today's recovery.

1. ETF Outflows: A Major Pressure Point

One important factor behind the correction is the reversal in demand for Grayscale's Zcash ETF, $ZCSH. The fund recorded approximately $93.56 million in net outflows during the week ending October 2. Redemptions included roughly $30.25 million on September 30 and $26.93 million on October 2. More recently, another $18.66 million flowed out on October 8.

These withdrawals matter because spot ETFs hold the underlying asset. Sustained redemptions can weaken demand and potentially create selling pressure as fund holdings adjust. However, ETF outflows alone do not prove that every redeemed dollar translates into an immediate market sale, nor do they establish the sole cause of ZEC's decline.

2. What the Chart Is Telling Us

The immediate technical question is whether ZEC can hold above the recovery zone around $1,180–$1,200.

The recent low near $1,113 is the key downside reference. If selling returns and that level breaks decisively, the market could search for lower support. On the upside, the $1,250–$1,300 area is an initial recovery zone to watch, followed by the previous breakdown region around $1,320–$1,340.

These are reference zones based on recent price action, not guaranteed support or resistance. A stronger bullish signal would require ZEC to reclaim resistance and sustain higher lows. A short-lived bounce that fails near resistance could instead become another selling opportunity.

3. NU7: A Long-Term Catalyst, Not an Immediate Price Guarantee

Zcash's development roadmap offers another important factor. The NU7 upgrade activated on testnet in early October, introducing testing for a reduction in target block spacing from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, alongside transaction and network sustainability changes.

Mainnet activation is targeted for November 5, with developers scheduled to assess testnet performance and determine the final activation height on October 20. The date remains a target rather than a guarantee.

The upgrade could improve confirmation speed and change aspects of the network's long-term sustainability design. Nevertheless, a successful technical upgrade does not automatically create immediate buying pressure. Market demand, execution, adoption, and broader liquidity will still influence price.

4. Bullish and Bearish Scenarios

The bullish scenario begins if ZEC holds above the recent low, stabilizes around $1,180–$1,200, and reclaims the $1,250–$1,300 area. Continued strength above that zone would improve the recovery structure and bring the $1,320–$1,340 region back into focus.

The bearish scenario develops if the rebound loses momentum, ETF redemptions continue, and ZEC falls back toward $1,180 before breaking the $1,113 low. Such a move would indicate that buyers have not yet absorbed the available selling pressure.

Neither scenario is confirmed. Traders should wait for price action to validate their view instead of entering simply because the token has already fallen sharply.

My Take: Watch the Recovery, Not Just the Discount

ZEC is caught between two competing forces: weakening ETF flows and a developing network upgrade. The recent rebound suggests that buyers are responding to lower prices, but the market still needs to demonstrate that demand can absorb continued selling.

The next signals worth tracking are daily ETF flows, price acceptance above $1,250–$1,300, and progress toward the October 20 NU7 decision. Together, these will provide a clearer picture than any single candle.

A 14% decline can create opportunity, but it can also signal that risk is rising. I would prioritize confirmation, position sizing, and a clear invalidation level over trying to catch the exact bottom.

What matters more for ZEC's next move: ETF flows, the $1,113 support zone, or the upcoming NU7 upgrade?
