Gate Idle Earn Adds USD1: How the 6.8% to 8.16% APR Is Actually Built

Gate Idle Earn now supports USD1, with a base APR of 6.8% and a boost that can push it to 8.16%. On paper that is a strong number for a stablecoin. The more useful question is how that number is made, because the answer changes how you should think about it.

What the event is

Idle Earn lets eligible stablecoin balances earn yield without you subscribing to anything or locking funds. Once it is switched on, the balance is counted automatically and can still be used for trading. USDT and USDC were already supported, and USD1 is the new addition. The 6.8% is not all interest: it combines 1.5% in USD1 interest with 5.3% paid as WLFI rewards.

That split is the most important detail in the whole campaign. Only a small part of the yield is in the stablecoin. Most of it arrives in WLFI, which is a volatile token.

Event period

No fixed end date is attached to the rate. It adjusts daily depending on the reward budget and how much USD1 is participating on the platform, so the number you see today may not be the number next week. Check the Idle Earn page for the live rate and any end date before you decide.

How to participate

Log in to Gate, open the Earn menu and go to Idle Earn, then enable it. Keep USD1 in your account and the balance is picked up automatically. There is no subscription step and no lock-up. Earnings are based on a daily snapshot and paid to your spot account the next day.

Requirements and the boost

The 1.2x boost needs 30-day futures trading volume of at least 150,000 USD1. It applies on holdings up to 500,000 USD1 and takes the total to a maximum of 8.16%. Without the volume, you stay at the 6.8% base.

Simple example

If you hold 10,000 USD1, the base rate works out to about 680 USD1 worth of yield over a year, of which roughly 150 is USD1 interest and about 530 is WLFI. At the boosted rate it would be around 816. These are illustrations of the math, not a promise, because the rate changes daily.

Why the WLFI part matters

WLFI is trading around $0.058, with a recent 24-hour range of roughly $0.0577 to $0.0597. The area near $0.055 has been acting as support lately. About 32B of the 100B total supply is circulating, so supply is still a factor to keep in mind.

Here is a simple what-if. If WLFI fell 30% in value, the 5.3% portion would be worth closer to 3.7%, and the effective total would land near 5.2% instead of 6.8%. If WLFI rises, the effective yield goes the other way. So the real return depends heavily on where WLFI trades when you receive and hold the rewards.

Why it may be interesting

You keep your funds liquid, there is no lock-up, and you don't need to do anything each day. For people who already hold USD1 or keep stablecoin balances on Gate for trading, it is an easy way to put idle balance to work. Compared with the lower rates on USDT and USDC in Idle Earn, USD1 clearly stands out.

Things to think about

The boost depends on futures volume, and futures trading carries real risk. It would not make sense to trade just to reach a yield tier. USD1 is a stablecoin, so its peg and issuer risk still apply. And because the rate is dynamic, treat 8.16% as a ceiling, not a target.

My view

I like the structure because it is simple and flexible, but I read it as a low single-digit stablecoin yield plus a WLFI reward stream, not a fixed 6.8%. If you plan to use it, decide beforehand whether you will hold or sell the WLFI you receive.

Discussion

Would you use USD1 Idle Earn just for the base rate, or is the futures-volume boost worth it for you? And how would you handle the WLFI rewards, hold or convert?
