MSTR is no longer just following Bitcoin the relative-strength move is the part I’m watching

The latest close gave MSTR a very different chart from the usual slow BTC-beta move. Strategy closed at $153.92, up 16.39% in one session, with 53.97 million shares changing hands. The intraday range was wide $136.18 to $154.02 and that combination of price expansion + volume makes the move worth separating from Bitcoin itself.

① Start with the BTC comparison

Bitcoin was around $81,000–$81,500 during the same market window, after reclaiming the $80,000 area. On September 18, BTC gained roughly 6%, while MSTR gained 16.39%. That means MSTR moved at more than twice BTC's one-day percentage rate.

This is the first relative-strength signal I would track: if BTC remains stable above $80,000 while MSTR continues holding above $150, then the stock is showing additional equity-specific momentum rather than simply copying the underlying asset.

The move also came with real ETF demand. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded about $433 million of net inflows on September 18, with Fidelity's FBTC responsible for roughly $310.7 million of that total.

② Volume is confirming that something changed

MSTR's September 18 volume reached approximately 53.97 million shares, compared with roughly 18.59 million the previous session. That is close to 2.9× the previous day's volume, and also well above the recent average-volume reference around the high-20-million range.

For me, this matters more than the percentage gain alone. A 16% move on normal volume would tell a different story. Here, price and participation expanded together.

③ The technical structure has improved sharply

At $153.92, MSTR is now above its reported 20-day average around $131.64, 50-day average around $110.82 and 200-day average around $137.04. RSI is around 66, while MACD remains positive.

The immediate technical line is therefore simple: $154–$155.

That area is practically sitting on the latest intraday high of $154.02, so a clean move through $155 with sustained volume would show that buyers are willing to pay above the recent breakout range. If price repeatedly fails there, the first thing I would watch is whether $150 can become short-term support, followed by the $137–$140 area around the 200-day average and recent structure.

④ Why MSTR can outperform BTC

MSTR's exposure is not identical to simply holding BTC. Strategy currently reports 845,050 BTC, equal to about 4.02% of total Bitcoin supply, with an average acquisition price around $75,412 per BTC. The company also reports significant USD reserves and other capital structures, so MSTR's equity price can react differently from spot BTC depending on market expectations, financing, volatility and the valuation investors assign to its Bitcoin treasury strategy.

That is why I would not automatically label this move as “BTC went up, therefore MSTR went up.” The magnitude of the stock move suggests that BTC strength was the catalyst, while equity positioning and momentum amplified the reaction.

⑤ My weekend one-asset setup: MSTR

I would keep the weekend observation strictly on MSTR, rather than mixing BTC, ETH and multiple stocks into one trade idea.

Reference price: $153.92
Entry observation: $150–$154 retest/hold zone
Invalidation: sustained move back below $137–$140
First resistance: $154–$155
Next observation zone: above $155 if volume expands
Technical reason: breakout momentum + heavy volume + price above 20/50/200-day averages + positive MACD + RSI around 66.

The bullish scenario is a controlled pullback that holds the $150 area, followed by a volume-backed break through $155. In that case, the important confirmation is not simply another green candle — it is whether MSTR continues outperforming BTC on percentage moves.

The bearish invalidation scenario is different: if MSTR loses the breakout structure and falls back through the $137–$140 region, the recent relative-strength move would need to be reconsidered. A sharp drop accompanied by fading volume would also tell me that the September 18 surge was more of a momentum burst than a durable trend change.

One important point for transparency: I’m treating this as a market-observation setup, not claiming a personal MSTR trade or position that I have not provided. The cleanest Gate Square data to follow through the weekend is MSTR price + volume + BTC performance + the $154–$155 resistance reaction.

The current picture is straightforward: BTC supplied the catalyst, but MSTR supplied the acceleration. The next confirmation comes from whether that relative strength survives after the first breakout excitement fades. @Gate_Square @Gate Launch
