The Federal Reserve's rate hike landed, and the crypto market rebounded broadly. But the most striking move came from an unexpected corner: the privacy sector. PayFi surged 5.03% in 24 hours, led by Zcash (ZEC), which jumped 23.28% to briefly hit a new all-time high of $1,385. Dash (DASH) followed with a 17.21% gain.
ZEC's rally wasn't solely a reaction to the Fed. A governance vote on the NU7 upgrade, announced the same day, added a second catalyst. The move also reflects a broader trend: privacy coins have climbed 213% since Bitcoin's October 2025 peak, with Zcash accounting for roughly 62% of the sector's $33.6 billion market cap.
The rally has pushed ZEC's daily RSI into overbought territory, a signal that momentum may be stretched. Key support now sits near $1,123, while resistance is around $1,206. A break below $1,100 could expose $1,000, while reclaiming $1,206 would reopen the path toward the recent high.
The privacy narrative has found fresh relevance. AI-powered blockchain surveillance is making transaction tracking more sophisticated, strengthening the case for privacy-focused networks. Grayscale's Zcash ETF, which crossed $500 million in assets within two weeks of launch, has also brought institutional access to the sector.
For traders, the question is whether this is a sustainable rotation or a leverage-driven spike. The derivatives market has already seen a reset, with open interest dropping roughly 20% and $17.2 million in long positions liquidated during the recent pullback. The coming sessions will show whether the privacy sector can hold its gains or whether the rally was another short-lived squeeze.
