Nubank Launches in U.S. With Nu Global Stablecoin Account on Thursday

Brazilian digital banking giant Nubank is launching its services in the United States on Thursday, September 17, 2026, with a flagship product called the Nu Global Stablecoin Account, marking a major expansion for the company beyond Latin America. The move, announced on September 13, positions Nubank to compete with established U.S. neobanks like Chime, Current, and Varo, as well as traditional banks that have been slow to adopt crypto-native features. The Nu Global Stablecoin Account will allow U.S. customers to hold, send, and receive USDC and other stablecoins, with zero fees and instant settlement. Nubank shares fell 2.66% on the news, likely due to concerns about the costs of entering the highly competitive U.S. market. USDC remained stable, while Bitcoin and Ethereum edged lower amid broader market weakness. Nubank, which is backed by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway and has over 100 million customers in Brazil, Mexico, and Colombia, has been expanding its crypto offerings in recent years, including Bitcoin and Ethereum trading, and has integrated stablecoin functionality into its existing app. The U.S. launch represents a bold bet that American consumers are ready for a crypto-native banking experience, particularly younger demographics who are increasingly skeptical of traditional banks. However, the U.S. market is crowded and heavily regulated, and Nubank will need to differentiate itself through superior user experience, lower fees, and innovative products. The stablecoin account is a smart entry point: it avoids the complexity of full banking licenses while offering a compelling use case for crypto-native users. For content creators, this is a story about the globalization of neobanking and the growing convergence of traditional finance and digital assets.

Mexico and Colombia are both in the bag; USDC is just an appetizer. Waiting for the day Nubank integrates DeFi.

September 17, 2026—mark it. Using stablecoins as the entry point is clever: it avoids the pitfalls of a banking license and takes an indirect route.

A 2.66% drop in the stock price is normal—the U.S. market burns money, after all. But young people really are fed up with traditional banks; this is a bet on the next ten years.
