#AugustCoreCPIBeatsExpectations
Market Update | September 13, 2026
Markets ended the week with a cautious tone as sticky inflation increased expectations for higher interest rates.
August CPI rose 0.4 percent month over month and 3.4 percent year over year. Core CPI increased 0.3 percent month over month and 2.4 percent year over year. The data kept pressure on risk assets and strengthened expectations for a 25 basis point rate hike at the September 15 to 16 FOMC meeting.
Bitcoin is trading near 77,200 to 77,350 dollars while Ethereum is around 2,525 to 2,530 dollars. Gold is holding near 4,350 to 4,400 dollars after recovering from earlier pressure.
The U.S. Dollar Index remains firm around 99 to 100.
Oil remains the biggest source of volatility. WTI crude moved above 100 dollars as rising tensions in Yemen increased concerns about Red Sea shipping and regional oil supply. Prices later pulled back as traders took profits and are currently moving around the 97 to 102 dollar range.
Overall markets remain cautious. Higher rate expectations are supporting the dollar while Bitcoin Ethereum and gold are showing resilience. Oil remains highly sensitive to developments in Yemen and regional shipping.
The next major market catalyst is the FOMC decision this week.
