Leaving space is not only an elevated aesthetic, but also a rare ability. Many people always want to say everything, fill every space, hold relationships tightly, arrange life without leaving anything to chance, and keep their trading accounts fully invested at all times. At its core, this comes from an inability to tolerate blank spaces and uncertainty. People with a true sense of proportion, by contrast, know when to stop, what need not be explained, and what need not be possessed. The essence of leaving space is not emptiness, but restraint; not lacking something, but knowing what one can do without.

Exactly. It took me three liquidations to understand what it means to leave some room.

When you’re all-in, you really can’t take advice like this in. Now that I’m watching my account balance hit zero, I’ve finally calmed down.

Restraint is ten thousand times harder than greed.

I used to think leaving part of my position uninvested was a waste of capital; now I understand it is room for error reserved for myself.

Leaving room is leaving yourself an escape route, and also giving the market some face—it never follows your script.
