The failure of DOGE, a thematic ETF, ultimately stems from its extremely scarce market liquidity.
Data compiled by The Block shows that although the first Dogecoin ETFs sparked a surge in short-term sentiment when they debuted in September 2025, these assets have consistently failed to effectively attract institutional capital. SoSoValue monitoring data shows that such ETFs saw net inflows of only about $318,000 last month, and even this meager buying came after reversing the predicament of net outflows in July.
The gap in trading volume is even more striking. According to data from Yahoo Finance, the cumulative historical trading volume of Dogecoin ETFs was only about $300 million.
By comparison, Hyperliquid products in the same altcoin sector recorded trading volume as high as $2.1 billion, while products tied to Zcash and Chainlink recorded $1.5 billion and $680 million, respectively. As for BWOW alone, its daily average trading volume peaked at $3 million during the week of its launch, after which it fell completely into a liquidity drought.
DOGE Falls Out of the Top Ten by Market Cap
Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley candidly acknowledged when promoting the fund last year that DOGE began as an internet joke and ultimately evolved into a cultural symbol; it never attempted to reshape global capital markets, nor did it ever claim to be based on fundamentals or actual utility. At the time, he marveled at the asset's unexpected vitality.
However, the laws of the market are ultimately ruthless. As of now, DOGE is trading around $0.084 on the secondary market, with its total market capitalization shrinking to approximately $13 billion. Over the past year, as assets with stronger narratives such as HYPE and ZEC rose forcefully, Dogecoin has been effectively pushed out of the top ten in the global crypto asset market-cap rankings.$DOGE
