#CoinDeskRevealsGateRWAPerpetualsTop3Globally
CoinDesk just dropped their August exchange review and the numbers on Gate stand out pretty clearly.
RWA perpetuals volume hit 64.7 billion dollars, up 158 percent from the month before. Market share more than doubled to 12.6 percent and that puts Gate in the top three globally. On the broader derivatives side the platform did 287 billion dollars and ranked fourth overall.
That kind of growth in one month is not normal. Most exchanges grow steadily. This looks more like traders actively shifting volume toward a venue that has the product coverage they want.
What I find interesting is the timing. August had some volatility in equities and memory-related names. Instead of volume drying up, Gate’s RWA book expanded. That usually means the platform is capturing flow when people actually need to trade, not just when markets are quiet and everyone is experimenting.
RWA perps are still a relatively new category. A year ago the volumes were tiny. Now we are seeing hundreds of billions a month across the industry. The exchanges that win here will be the ones that list the most relevant contracts, keep spreads reasonable, and stay reliable when volatility spikes. Gate seems to be checking those boxes right now.
The wider derivatives ranking at fourth place also matters. It shows the platform is not only winning in one niche. The overall futures and perps business is healthy too.
My personal take is that this is more than a one-month spike. Product depth tends to create its own momentum. Once traders get used to finding the contracts they want on one exchange, they stick around. If Gate keeps expanding the RWA list and maintains execution quality, the market share gains can keep compounding.
Of course numbers can swing month to month. But a 158 percent jump that moves you into the global top three is hard to ignore. It suggests real demand is finding its way to the platform.
Curious what others think. Is this just a temporary surge driven by a few hot stocks, or are we watching a longer-term shift in where RWA trading prefers to happen?
