Apple didn't just launch another iPhone tonight. It opened a new chapter.
The biggest headline from the event was iPhone Duo, Apple's first foldable iPhone and arguably the most important hardware change to the iPhone lineup in years.

Duo opens into a 7.6-inch display with a 5.4-inch outer screen, supports Apple Pencil, allows split-screen multitasking and runs on the new A20 Pro chip. It starts at $1,999, with up to 2TB of storage. Pre-orders begin October 16 and sales start October 23.

Then came the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max.

Both models start higher this year at $1,199 and $1,299, respectively. Apple is pushing the A20 Pro platform, improved battery performance and a new 48MP main camera with variable aperture, while also introducing new tools aimed at identifying AI-generated or edited images.

But hardware wasn't the only story.

This was also John Ternus's first major Apple event as CEO after taking over from Tim Cook on September 1. His message was heavily focused on Apple's approach to AI: more processing on-device, privacy protections through Private Cloud Compute, and a more capable Siri designed to work across hundreds of thousands of apps.

Apple also refreshed the Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, with new health and audio-intelligence features, while AirPods 5 arrived with active noise cancellation and other upgrades, starting at $129.

Now comes the part I care about most as a trader:

What does all of this mean for AAPL?

A great product launch doesn't automatically mean a great stock trade.

The market will eventually judge three things:

Demand: Can Apple turn the foldable category into a meaningful new revenue stream?

Margins: Can Apple maintain premium pricing while absorbing higher component and memory costs?

AI: Can Apple convert its huge installed base into a real competitive advantage in the AI era?

The $1,999 Duo is especially interesting. It's expensive, but Apple isn't necessarily trying to make foldables mainstream overnight. The bigger opportunity could be creating another premium product category while keeping customers inside its ecosystem.

The higher iPhone 18 Pro pricing creates the opposite question: will customers accept higher prices because the new features are compelling enough?

And for AAPL shareholders, that's ultimately the test.

I'm less interested in whether the keynote looked impressive and more interested in what happens next: pre-order demand, shipment momentum, margins, AI adoption and the market's reaction to Apple's new product cycle.

Apple has given investors a new story.

Now it has to prove that story in the numbers.

Would you buy the $1,999 foldable iPhone, or do you think the iPhone 18 Pro offers the better value? And more importantly — do you think this product cycle is strong enough to push AAPL higher?
