#GateMeme Can the red-hot new concept “Stock-Linked MEME” be traded?
The “Stock-Linked MEME” concept has exploded these past few days. On RobinHood Chain, BONER, a MEME coin paired with HIMS stock, rose from $8 million to $80 million in one day, a tenfold increase; then the MEME centered around AMC stock Token speculation surged over 264% within 24 hours of launch, eventually surpassing a market cap of $130 million; FAMI coin also rose 452% in one day. Before long, the trend spread to BSC Chain, with STONKS rising more than 190-fold on September 4, breaking through from a market cap of tens of thousands of dollars to $19 million. Fourmeme, a MEME launch platform on BSC, turned this into a product and launched 4Stock, whose market cap surpassed $82 million in just five hours. You probably understand how hot this is now, right? It is not a 20% or 30% gain; it can easily bring you four or five times your money in a day, or even hundreds of times, maxing out the wealth effect. That is why so many people are asking whether Stock-Linked MEME can be traded. Today, let’s talk about it.
What is “Stock-Linked MEME”?
Simply put, it means issuing a MEME coin with the same name as a stock and forming a trading pool with the corresponding stock. For example, there is a U.S. stock called AMC. The Stock-Linked MEME model first turns AMC into a TOKEN, then issues a MEME so that the MEME coin and the AMC stock TOKEN directly form a trading pool and can be traded against each other. Previously, it was MEME\ETH and MEME\USDT; now it has become MEME\AMC.
Stock-Linked MEME is still MEME coin. Can MEME coins make money? Of course they can. If a sector does not offer people continuous opportunities to profit, regardless of whether they ultimately lose money, that sector will inevitably cease to exist.
But among those who actually make money on MEME, how many of them talk about value? Anyone who assigns value to MEME is either collecting liquidity, or is themselves the liquidity.
A few days ago, Robinhood happened to release a set of data. Since the launch of Robinhood Chain, a total of 375,700 users have participated in Meme trading on the FOMO platform. Of these, 95.2% lost money\did not profit; 0.9% made more than $1,000; 0.17% made more than $5,000; and 0.06% made more than $10,000-----that is, 229 people. At the same time, not one of the people confirmed to have made more than $10,000 was talking about the value of MEME; yet the number of people on X saying that Stock-Linked MEME has value and an appealing narrative is probably in the tens of thousands--------is it really appropriate to listen to people who cannot make money on MEME talk about MEME’s logic? What Stock-Linked MEME has is not a “value loop,” but a “story loop.”
MEME rises, the stock Token rises, people buy the underlying stock, the underlying stock rises, BNB rises, BNC assets appreciate, feeding back into the stock Token and MEME, and everyone holds hands as they spiral upward together.
The story is perfect, but the logic is a mess. Take any link in the chain. If your stock rises and you make $500 million, that does not mean your account suddenly has $500 million in cash. If you want to keep buying BNB, you still need to issue more shares, issue debt, or raise financing-------what does that mean? It means there are costs and conditions, existing shareholders’ interests will be diluted, and someone still has to be willing to buy.
Taking it one step further, what do you get by buying MEME coins? Do you have BNC equity? Can you exchange MEME for BNC stock? Does buying MEME coins mean you have bought BNB? In the end, FourMEME earns the transaction fees—do you receive dividends? None of that happens, so where exactly is the value you are talking about? Is it the value of providing liquidity? No. Sticking dog feces onto gold does not turn the dog feces into gold.
The logic behind Stock-Linked MEME’s rise is a new narrative, a benchmark to follow (a coin that has already risen), sufficient attention, and liquidity willing to buy the top.
Of course this thing can make money, but if you insist that it has value, isn’t that just nonsense?
People who actually make money on MEME should know from day one that what they are buying is not a company, not future cash flow, not profit growth, and not a business model. What they are buying is sentiment, attention, and liquidity; what they are participating in is a zero-sum game, and what they are earning is the money of the next group of people who enter later than they do.
So, can Stock-Linked MEME be traded? Of course it can, and of course you can make money—but can you become one of that 0.06%?
I certainly cannot.
