Altcoin OI has overtaken Bitcoin — and USELESS is showing why this matters.
The bigger market shift:
According to Coinalyze, altcoin perpetual-futures open interest has moved above Bitcoin for the first time in more than a year. This is more than just another derivatives statistic. It shows that traders are putting increasingly more exposure into the broader altcoin market instead of keeping the majority of their leveraged positioning around BTC. That doesn’t confirm a full altseason yet, but it does show that appetite for higher-risk trades is expanding.
Why meme coins matter here:
The interesting part is that this rotation is happening alongside stronger activity in meme coins. When traders move further out on the risk curve, meme coins are usually among the first areas to attract speculative liquidity. That creates a very different market environment from a BTC-led move. The upside can become much faster, but so can the reversals.
USELESS current market:
USELESS is currently trading around $0.22, after a sharp pullback from the recent spike toward the $0.30 area. Despite today’s weakness, the broader move has remained aggressive. Futures activity is also significantly larger than spot activity, which tells me leverage is playing a major role in the current price action.
Price structure:
The first thing I would watch now is whether USELESS can stabilize around the $0.21–$0.22 area after the recent rejection. Holding this region would keep the broader bullish structure alive and could give buyers a base for another attempt higher. A recovery through $0.25 would be the first sign that momentum is returning, while the $0.27–$0.30 zone remains the major resistance area to reclaim.
Bullish scenario:
If USELESS holds above the current support area, volume starts expanding again and price reclaims $0.25, the next serious test would be the $0.27–$0.30 resistance zone. A clean breakout with strong volume could open the door toward the previous highs and potentially higher price discovery. I would still want the breakout confirmed rather than buying simply because OI is rising.
Bearish scenario:
The main risk is that the recent rally attracted too much leverage too quickly. If $0.21 fails decisively, the market could start unwinding crowded positions. In that case, $0.20 becomes an important psychological level, followed by the $0.18–$0.19 region as a deeper retracement zone. With futures activity dominating the market, a leverage-driven flush is something I would not ignore.
The OI trap:
This is the part many traders miss. Rising open interest is not automatically bullish. If price rises together with healthy volume and OI, it can support the trend. But if OI keeps increasing while price struggles to make new highs, leverage can become overcrowded. In a volatile coin like USELESS, that can turn into a liquidation cascade very quickly.
My trade view:
I would rather wait for confirmation than chase the move here. For a bullish setup, I want to see USELESS defend $0.21–$0.22, reclaim $0.25, and then challenge $0.27–$0.30 with convincing volume. If support breaks instead, I would step back and wait for a new structure rather than trying to catch the falling knife.
The bigger picture:
That’s why the altcoin OI crossover is important. USELESS is only one example, but its price action shows what can happen when speculative interest, derivatives activity and leverage concentrate in an altcoin at the same time. If the broader altcoin rotation continues, high-beta names can move extremely fast. If the rotation fails, those same names can unwind even faster.
Bottom line:
I’m not calling this a confirmed altseason yet.
I’m watching whether the BTC → altcoin risk rotation can turn into sustained spot demand instead of just leveraged speculation.
For USELESS, the key levels are simple:
Hold $0.21–$0.22 → reclaim $0.25 → challenge $0.27–$0.30.
Lose the current support, and the setup changes completely.
Would you trade USELESS here, or wait for the $0.25 reclaim first?
