ZEC Just Flipped DOGE — And the Market Is Paying Attention

The crypto rankings have a new headline.

Zcash ($ZEC ) has pushed past Dogecoin ($DOGE) to claim the position by market capitalization, with ZEC now valued at approximately $19.64B according to the latest September 6, 2026 market data.

But this is not simply a ranking change.

It is a clear example of how aggressive price appreciation, capital rotation, supply structure, and strengthening market participation can completely reshape the large-cap crypto hierarchy within a short period of time.

ZEC has been one of the stronger performers across recent sessions, with price moving through the $1,000–$1,170 area while trading activity expanded significantly. Its circulating supply is approximately 16.8M coins against a maximum supply of 21M, giving the asset a considerably tighter supply profile than DOGE.

That difference matters when capital starts moving.

Dogecoin remains around the $0.09 region with a market capitalization in the mid-$14B range, but its enormous circulating supply means that pushing its market value substantially higher requires a much larger amount of capital compared with an asset such as ZEC.

The ranking flip therefore reflects two forces working together: ZEC’s powerful recent appreciation and the structural difference in circulating supply.

The technical picture also supports the strength of the move.

On the daily timeframe, ZEC has maintained a clear pattern of higher highs and higher lows while repeatedly breaking through resistance zones that previously limited the advance. More importantly, volume expanded alongside the strongest upward sessions, suggesting that the rally has attracted meaningful market participation rather than being driven purely by thin liquidity.

Momentum has also shifted decisively.

Indicators that were previously neutral have moved into stronger territory as the trend developed, while the price structure continues to favor buyers. This combination of price expansion and increasing participation is what makes the current move more significant than a simple short-term spike.

The next question is whether ZEC can defend its newly gained position.

The previous breakout zones are now the areas I would watch most closely during any pullback. If buyers continue defending those levels and volume remains healthy, the bullish structure remains intact. Above the current range, recent highs and major psychological levels become the next potential resistance references.

There is also a broader relative-strength story developing.

While several major cryptocurrencies have produced more moderate returns, ZEC has delivered substantially stronger performance across both shorter and longer windows. That divergence has helped accelerate the market-cap crossover and push ZEC directly into the top-tier ranking conversation.

Still, market-cap rankings are not permanent.

A sharp reversal in ZEC, renewed momentum in DOGE, or stronger performance from the assets surrounding the position could quickly change the leaderboard again. The real test is therefore not whether ZEC reached , but whether it can maintain the capital flows and technical structure that took it there.

For now, the message from the market is clear:

ZEC has overtaken DOGE.
