Guide to Overcoming Risk Controls and Ensuring Security in Deposit and Withdrawal Transactions
In the Web3 and cryptocurrency ecosystem, the biggest obstacle when converting your funds to cash or transferring money to platforms is the Risk Control Systems of banks and exchanges, and the resulting card/account blocking. Especially P2P transactions are the riskiest bridge where on-chain dirty money comes into contact with the traditional banking system.
Below, the risks you may encounter in fund inflows and outflows, ways to avoid these risks, and what to do in case of a restriction are explained step-by-step.
Major Risks in Deposit and Withdrawal Transactions
* Refund and Stolen Fund Risk (P2P): In P2P transactions, if the fiat currency (USD) sent to you by the counterparty comes from a stolen bank account or a fraud case, your bank will directly block the account.
* On-Chain Money Laundering: If the cryptocurrency you withdraw has previously interacted with Tornado Cash, hacked exchanges, or regulated wallets, centralized exchanges will freeze your account.
* Bank Account Review (Regulatory Risk): Numerous small or large transfers from many different individuals in a short period of time are flagged by banks' AI algorithms as "Unregistered Business Activity" or "Traditional Gambling/Betting."
How to Avoid Risk Control? To avoid triggering the automated systems of banks and exchanges, you must strictly adhere to these rules:
* Never Use Third-Party Accounts: Your exchange account name must exactly match your bank account name. Using a friend's or relative's card for transactions is a direct cause of account restrictions.
* Leave the Description Section Blank: When making bank transfers, absolutely do not write "Crypto," "Bitcoin," "USDT," "Exchange," "Web3," or exchange order numbers in the description section. If necessary, only write "Bank Card" or leave it blank.
* Spread Transaction Volume and Frequency Over Time: Do not make dozens of transfers in a row on the same day. Withdraw the money in one go or at reasonable intervals.
* Filtering When Choosing P2P Platforms: When trading on P2P platforms, ensure the seller has a success rate of over 98% and has been active for at least a year. Avoid new accounts offering instant high exchange rates.
* Frequently Used Account Function: Add the exchange IBANs you frequently transfer to to your "Saved Recipients" list in your bank application.
What to Do If Your Card is Frozen or Your Account is Restricted? Don't panic if your account is blocked. Understanding the type of block is the first step:
1. Temporary Restrictions Imposed by the Bank (Suspicious Transaction)
* Status: The bank's risk algorithm has found the transaction suspicious and temporarily closed the account.
* Action: Immediately call the bank's customer service or visit a branch. Verify that the transaction was made by you and involved the buying and selling of crypto assets, using proof of the frozen exchange (screenshots, transaction history).
2. Judicial/Police Blockage
* Situation: It was discovered that the money of the person you traded with on P2P was stolen, and a victim filed a complaint. The cybercrime prosecutor's office has blocked your account.
* Action: Obtain the prosecutor's case number and the relevant police unit that placed the blockage from the bank. To prove you are a clean user, print out the transaction history, the counterparty's KYC information, and chat logs for that transaction on the exchange as PDFs. With the help of a lawyer, file an appeal with the prosecutor's office, stating that you are a "good faith third party."
3. Exchange Account Restriction
* Situation: The exchange's compliance department has started reviewing your funds.
* Action: Contact live support. Submit the required "Proof of Funding" document completely.
Safest Approaches for Cash Withdrawals
Since traditional P2P methods now carry very high risks, you should consider the following safer alternatives:
* Use Exchanges with Direct Bank Integration: Use local and regulated exchanges like Gate. Transfers to the official bank accounts of these exchanges are much less risky in the eyes of banks than P2P transfers.
* Crypto Bank Cards: Use crypto cards with Visa/Mastercard logos offered by platforms like Gate.io (if active in your region). Funds are spent directly at POS terminals or ATMs without going into your bank account.
* Institutional Risk Control System Channels: If you are withdrawing large amounts of $50,000 or more, prefer the official Risk Control System desks of exchanges or regulated cryptocurrency bureaus. This ensures a single withdrawal transaction with legal contracts and clean funds.
* Regular Tax and Declaration Follow-up: Comply with the crypto asset tax and declaration rules of your country of residence. Make sure you can document the source of any large sums of money you bring into the system.
