NFP = Non-Farm Payrolls.

It’s a major U.S. jobs report released monthly, usually on the first Friday of the month.

It shows things like:

* 🇺🇸 How many jobs were added/lost in the U.S.
* 📊 Unemployment rate
* 💵 Wage growth

Why crypto traders care

Strong jobs data → Fed may have less reason to cut rates → USD/yields can rise → crypto may face pressure.

Weak jobs data → expectations for easier Fed policy can increase → BTC/ETH may get a boost.

So when traders say “waiting for NFP”, they basically mean: “Let’s see what the U.S. jobs data says before making a big move.”

Once the nonfarm payrolls data is released, it is common for both longs and shorts to get wiped out; position management matters more than prediction.

Retail investors who chase the news after seeing data on institutions positioning early can easily end up holding the bag.

Are we paying more attention to the unemployment rate or hourly wages now? It feels like the latter has a greater impact on inflation expectations.

Strong NFP → strong USD → weak crypto—this logic has been proven wrong several times this year.

When reviewing the data, keep an eye on the U.S. Dollar Index as well—the correlation is more reliable than looking at the numbers alone.

Every time they say to wait for NFP, then after that they say to wait for CPI—it’s a perpetual motion machine at this point.

Stop guessing—the safest move is to close leveraged positions half an hour before the data is released.
