Gate Goes Live With US Stock Options: 9 Mega-Caps, Zero Physical Delivery, All Settled in USDT
You don't need a brokerage account anymore to trade Tesla and Nvidia options. A crypto exchange just launched it.
Global crypto exchange Gate officially launched US Stock Options trading on September 2nd. At launch, it supports 9 names: Nvidia, Tesla, Apple, Meta, AMD, Micron, Amazon, Alphabet Class A, and Broadcom.
This is not traditional options trading as you know it.
The 3 Details That Explain Why This Is Different
1. The Settlement Is in USDT, Not Shares. This is the core difference. Even when you exercise, you don't get the underlying stock. The option is cash-settled in Tether's USDT. Gate uses the average price of the underlying stock during a settlement window 30 minutes before official settlement to determine the payout.
2. No Brokerage or Margin Account Needed. Gate says users won't need to open a separate brokerage or margin account. Trading is available inside the Gate app during regular US market hours. For the initial rollout, Gate is waiving platform fees and brokerage commissions — only regulatory fees from the SEC and FINRA still apply.
3. It Is Part of a Much Bigger Bridge. This options launch is not isolated. In June, Gate began offering direct US stock and ETF trading, growing to over 10,000 US-listed securities in days through a partnership with Alpaca. That service also lets users trade stocks with USDT. The options product is the next layer: bridging digital assets and traditional markets in one unified account.
What Does This Mean?
For years, crypto exchanges tried to offer "tokenized stocks." This is different. Gate is not tokenizing the stock itself; it is offering a derivative on top of the stock, but keeping the entire experience inside crypto rails.
For retail traders, the signal is clear: the line between crypto trading and Wall Street trading is disappearing. You can now long Tesla with USDT, hedge Nvidia with puts, and never touch a traditional broker.
The risk? Gate does not disclose its upstream broker for clearing, and settlement is handled on its own timeline to accommodate that broker. It is centralized, offshore, and not SIPC-insured like a US brokerage.
Gate's $10,000 stocks push and now 9 options show one thing: the next wave of US stock trading volume may not come from Robinhood, but from crypto exchanges.
Are you going to trade US options with USDT? Let's discuss in the comments.
