Gate’s Latest Proof of Reserves: The Numbers Behind the 127%
Gate has released its latest Proof of Reserves update, with figures reported as of August 19, 2026.
The headline number is clear:
$8.215B in total reserves
127% overall reserve coverage
But the more interesting part is what sits behind that figure.
• BTC: Users hold 22,436 BTC, while Gate reports 27,550 BTC in reserves — 122.79% coverage.
• ETH: User holdings reached 375,429 ETH against 458,203 ETH in reserves — 122.05% coverage.
• Stablecoins: $1.578B in reported user assets vs. $1.761B in reserves — 111.63% coverage.
• GT: 131.15% reserve ratio
• XRP: 116.09% reserve ratio
The BTC and ETH figures also increased from the previous report, showing that both user balances and corresponding reserves moved higher.
Why this matters
A reserve ratio above 100% means the reported reserves exceed the corresponding user assets covered by the report.
That doesn't eliminate exchange, market, or custody risk and it isn't a guarantee against losses.
But transparent reserve data gives users another measurable factor to evaluate when assessing an exchange.
For me, the important number isn't simply the $8.215B headline.
It's the coverage across individual asset categories and whether that transparency continues consistently over time.
Proof of reserves is most useful when users actually look beyond the headline and examine the underlying numbers.
