ENA – The 15%+ Surge Day, Full Technical and Trading Breakdown

Current price at the time of writing is around $0.1668–$0.1695 on Gate spot (latest tick $0.1695, ~09:00 UTC, 28 August). ENA did surge more than 15% in a day: the daily candle that closed on 27 August (UTC) opened at $0.14743 and closed at $0.17010, a gain of about +15.4%. It then spiked further this morning to an intraday high of $0.18987–$0.18994 around 01:00–02:00 UTC, which was roughly +21.2% versus the price 24 hours earlier, before being rejected hard and falling back to the current $0.1668–$0.1695 zone. That is why your read is correct: it went from about $0.18 to $0.16, sitting about -10.8% below the intraday high right now. Over seven days ENA is still up roughly +27.3%, and measured from its 30 July low of $0.07696 it has rebounded about +120.3% in a month.

The catalyst is fundamental, not just technical. On 27 August the Ethena Foundation announced four major ecosystem changes. First, it bought out all locked tokens from major seed investors who had sold ENA over the past nine months, doing so via over-the-counter transactions in the last two weeks, which removes a large future overhang. Second, it signed a Master Framework Agreement in principle under which the protocol's intellectual property and economic value belong to the Foundation and ENA holders rather than Ethena Labs equity holders. Third, it opened a governance vote (running 27 August to 2 September) on a fee switch: once USDe supply reaches the first milestone of $7.5 billion, 95% of net revenue from the three core business lines (USDe savings, white-label stablecoins, and the new Ethena X product launching next week) would be used for programmatic ENA buybacks, with only 5% going to growth. The vote currently shows 100% support with about 14 million votes in favour, well above the 5 million quorum, so it is very likely to pass. Fourth, it cancelled future monthly VC unlocks, releasing remaining original investor tokens in one event on 5 October instead; roughly 12% of supply stays locked (team, ecosystem, foundation), and StablecoinX, holding about 20% of supply, keeps its own separate schedule. This directly removes the constant unlock selling pressure that the market feared. For context, USDe supply has fallen from a peak near $15 billion in October to below $5 billion (about $4.06 billion now), so the fee switch would only activate after USDe grows about 85% more. Ethena also announced a $1 billion facility with FalconX last week, Janus Henderson invested in June, Coinbase offers an Ethena savings product, and sUSDe yield just hit a three-month high near 5% APY — all supportive narrative fuel.

On the 1-day chart, the picture is a classic spike-and-fade: the price opened at $0.1702, surged to $0.1899, then produced a sharp bearish rejection back into the $0.1636–$0.1695 range. The daily RSI is around 78, which is overbought, and the daily ADX near 45 confirms a very strong trend, but a reading that hot after a +15% day usually needs a pause. On the 1-hour chart, ENA closed the 07:00 UTC candle at $0.16682, RSI has cooled to about 54 (neutral, which is healthy), MACD is flattening, and the price is sitting right at the 1-hour MA7 of $0.1682, above the MA30 at $0.1603, the MA120 at $0.1552 and the MA200 at $0.1462 — so the moving-average structure on the hourly is still bullish. The 1-hour Bollinger bands are $0.1494 lower, $0.1658 middle and $0.1822 upper; the middle band at $0.1658 is acting as the immediate pivot. One caution flag: the hourly SAR has flipped above price at about $0.1855, a short-term bearish flip, and the intraday high was rejected right at the $0.1832 level from 23 August plus the upper Bollinger band, a natural supply zone.

The 7-day pattern tells the same story in a wider frame: 22 August closed +11.3% at $0.15822, 23 August spiked to $0.18319 before fading to $0.16162, then two corrective red days on 24–25 August (-5.5% to $0.1527, -6.4% to $0.1429), a stabilization day on 26 August (+3.2% to $0.14741), and then the breakout day on 27 August (+15.4% to $0.17010). The sequence shows higher lows since 26 August, a fresh momentum breakout, and today's rejection at the $0.183–$0.19 zone. This is a bullish structure that got ahead of itself intraday — the trend is up, but the immediate move is overheated. Derivatives data backs the "crowded" read: open interest is about $495 million, up +16.5% in 24 hours (fresh money entering), funding is positive at roughly +0.04% per interval (longs paying shorts, an elevated level), and the retail long/short ratio is 1.53 — meaning the retail crowd is heavily long while top-trader positioning is flat to slightly negative. Taker buy/sell ratio at 0.98 shows selling pressure slightly outweighing buying at the moment. That combination, hot RSI plus crowded longs plus a rejected spike, points to a consolidation or a shallow pullback before any next leg up.

Trader sentiment on X is clearly positive but also a little frothy. CoinGecko's own account flagged the +10.3% move tied to the fee-switch vote; Wu Blockchain and DeFi Dad ("full send, killed overhang from early investors and VC unlocks") are constructive; researcher 0xc06 noted token value accrual becomes real when buybacks stop being theoretical; Jason Yanowitz praised the token-equity alignment alongside the buyout. A whale wallet (0x0911...) has been long since 28 July with a 10x position of about 9.45 million ENA at an average of $0.09498, now worth roughly $1.59 million with floating profit around $696,000 — a return of about +775.5%. The cautious minority on X asks whether fee revenue will truly reach buybacks versus stablecoin yield distribution, and when the milestones will actually be reached.

Key levels to watch. Resistance: R1 at $0.1727 (the 27 August high), R2 at $0.1832 (the 23 August high, matching the 1-hour upper Bollinger band), R3 at $0.1894–$0.1899 (today's high), then the psychological $0.20. Support: S1 at $0.1636–$0.1646 (this morning's hourly low cluster), S2 at $0.1603 (1-hour MA30 and today's low area), S3 at $0.1552–$0.1567 (1-hour MA120 and the 27 August morning range), S4 at $0.1474–$0.1503 (27 August open zone), S5 at $0.1425–$0.1455 (the 27 August low, the key floor of this move), and S6 at $0.1349–$0.1364 (the 26 August low).

Will it go higher? My honest read: the medium-term setup is still bullish while the price holds above $0.1474–$0.1425, because the unlock overhang is gone, buybacks are now a live narrative with a vote that looks certain to pass, and the daily trend (ADX 45, bullish MA alignment, SAR at $0.1244) remains firmly up. But the short term is risky: after a +15% day and a spike that was rejected at the highs, daily RSI at 78 and crowded retail longs usually produce a pullback first. The most likely path over the next few sessions is sideways consolidation between roughly $0.155 and $0.173, digesting the move until the vote closes on 2 September. A reclaim of $0.1727 with volume opens $0.1832, and a breakout above $0.1899 targets $0.20 and beyond; a break below $0.1603 opens $0.1552, then $0.1474, and losing $0.1425 would put the whole rally into question, with $0.1349 as the last major support.

For a disciplined plan, the safer approach is not to chase at $0.169 after a rejected spike. Consider buying the pullback into the $0.1640–$0.1650 zone (S1 plus the 1-hour mid-Bollinger) or waiting for a confirmed breakout and close above $0.1730. If you enter near $0.1645: SL1 at $0.1595 (about -3.0%, just under S2), SL2 at $0.1545 (about -6.1%, under S3), SL3 at $0.1470 (about -10.6%, the structure-invalidation stop below S4). Targets: TP1 at $0.1727 (about +5.0%), TP2 at $0.1830 (about +11.2%), TP3 at $0.1895 (about +15.2%). Take partial profits at each target and move your stop to breakeven after TP1; size the position so that SL1 is a loss you can comfortably absorb. Remember the vote result on 2 September is the main scheduled risk event, and crypto after a 15% day is vulnerable to sharp retracements — this is educational analysis, not financial advice, so manage your own risk.
