⚽ Crystal Palace vs Manchester City — Premier League Matchweek 2

🗓 29 August 2026 | ⏰ 19:30 UTC+8 | 🏟 Selhurst Park, London

🔵 Manchester City Are the Clear Favourites — And Here’s Why:

📊 Recent Form:

Crystal Palace started their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 defeat against Everton, extending their winless run in the Premier League to 8 matches. They also suffered a 3-0 defeat against Freiburg in a friendly. With new manager Pierre Sage in charge, the team is still adapting to his tactical system.
Manchester City started their league campaign strongly with a 2-1 comeback victory over Bournemouth. Under new manager Enzo Maresca, the team is still going through a transition, but the opening league victory has given them plenty of confidence. Their 3-0 Community Shield defeat against Arsenal was disappointing, but their league form remains positive.

⚔️ Head-to-Head Record:

In the last 22 Premier League meetings, Crystal Palace have won only 2 times, while Manchester City have recorded 15 victories and 5 draws. Palace’s last Premier League victory over City came in October 2021, meaning they have now gone 9 matches without a league win against them.

Manchester City also have an excellent record at Selhurst Park and have not lost there since 2015.

City’s last five meetings with Palace produced results of W5-2, W3-0, L0-1 in the 2025 FA Cup final, W3-0 and D2-2. After their FA Cup defeat, City responded strongly in the league.

🌟 Key Players:

Erling Haaland is Manchester City’s biggest attacking weapon. He has scored 8 goals in just 5 Premier League appearances against Crystal Palace and has consistently found the net against them. With 27 league goals last season, Haaland remains one of the most dangerous strikers in world football.

Phil Foden is another major creative threat. He created 54 chances last season and scored 7 goals, making him an important part of City’s attacking structure.

For Crystal Palace, Jean-Philippe Mateta remains one of their biggest attacking weapons after scoring 12 goals last season. However, he will have a difficult challenge against Manchester City’s defence.

Adam Wharton could also be an important player for Palace. Manchester City have reportedly shown interest in the midfielder, but Palace have resisted approaches. His ability to control midfield and create opportunities could be crucial in this match.

🤕 Injury Concerns:

Manchester City could be without Jeremy Doku, who is dealing with a calf problem and is expected to be out until around mid-September. Savinho has also been unwell, while Claudio Echeverri is expected to miss the match. However, City’s squad depth means they still have plenty of quality available.

For Crystal Palace, Ismaila Sarr is another concern and has been linked with Liverpool. His absence could reduce Palace’s attacking options.

📈 What the Betting Market Suggests:

Manchester City are around 62% favourites to win, while the draw is around 24% and Crystal Palace are around 19%.

The probability of Over 2.5 Goals is approximately 58%, suggesting a reasonably strong chance of an entertaining, high-scoring match.

Both Teams to Score is around 54%, meaning there is also a decent possibility that Palace can find the net at home.

🔮 My Prediction:

Manchester City 3-1 Crystal Palace
I expect Crystal Palace to show plenty of fighting spirit at home and they could potentially create an early opportunity or even score first.

However, Manchester City’s squad depth, Erling Haaland’s consistency in front of goal and their excellent historical record against Palace make City my clear favourite.

Manchester City are still adapting under Enzo Maresca, so this may not be a completely comfortable match. However, the difference in overall squad quality is significant. Palace scored only around 41 league goals last season, one of the lower totals in the division, and creating enough chances against City could prove difficult.

I expect City to become stronger as the match progresses. Their ability to control possession, create chances from multiple areas and bring quality players from the bench should eventually make the difference.

Haaland is also a major reason behind my prediction. His record against Palace is excellent, and if City can consistently supply him inside the box, another goal could be very likely.

The combination of head-to-head history, current form, squad depth and attacking quality all points toward Manchester City.

Football can always produce surprises, and Crystal Palace have home advantage, so nothing is guaranteed. But based on the available data and overall quality, I believe the advantage clearly belongs to Manchester City. 💙⚽

🔥 Final Call: Manchester City to win 3-1.
