$MU ‌Micron has become the prime example of the transformation of the memory industry in the age of artificial intelligence. Revenue of $41.5 billion announced in the third quarter of fiscal year 2026 represents a 346% increase compared to the same period last year. Even more striking, the company's net profit of $50.5 billion over the last four quarters exceeds the total of the previous nine fiscal years. As CEO Sanjay Mehrotra states, memory is no longer a commodity, but "the strategic infrastructure of the AI age."

Supply Constraints and Demand Explosion

The main problem facing Micron is not a lack of demand, but rather an inability to meet it. Mehrotra notes that data center customers are demanding 50% more than the current production capacity. This is fundamentally changing the traditional supply-demand balance of the industry. The historically cyclical memory market is undergoing a structural transformation, becoming an indispensable part of AI infrastructure.

HBM4 and NVIDIA Partnership

Micron's most important strategic trump card was securing NVIDIA's confirmation as an HBM4 supplier for its next-generation Vera Rubin AI platform. The company announced it has begun high-volume HBM4 shipments and that all 2026 HBM capacity is tied up through multi-year fixed-price agreements. CEO Mehrotra emphasizes that AI systems need more, higher-performance, and lower-power memory.

Market Dynamics and Investor Perspective

NVIDIA's increased supply commitments to $279 billion were a strong signal of continued memory demand. However, Micron shares fell by approximately 3% on August 27th following this news. This move is interpreted as profit-taking, a "sell on the news" reaction to the nearly 200% year-to-date gain in the stock.

The main question for investors is whether Micron's current market capitalization exceeding $1 trillion is sustainable. Analysts' average target price is $1,513, indicating a 70% upside potential for the stock. However, CEO Mehrotra's $29 million stock sale and management changes are seen as counteracting this optimistic outlook.
