#SK海力士涨超5% NVIDIA's better-than-expected earnings ignite the semiconductor sector! Japanese and South Korean stocks open higher, SK hynix surges 5%
On August 27, South Korea's KOSPI opened up 2.8% at 6,996.12 points; the Nikkei 225 opened up 0.78% at 66,775.78 points. Among them, SK hynix rose 5% and Samsung Electronics rose 3%.
NVIDIA (NVDAUS) released its fiscal second-quarter (May-July) earnings, reporting revenue of $96.22 billion (approximately 133.2 trillion Korean won), up 106% year on year and exceeding market expectations, marking 13 consecutive quarters of record-high revenue. Earnings per share were $2.22, gross margin was 75%, and operating margin was 66.5%. After the earnings release, its stock price surged 4.4% in after-hours trading. CEO Jensen Huang said: “AI has reached a tipping point. Tokens have productivity and revenue-generating attributes, and computing power itself is being converted into revenue.”
Meanwhile, Kioxia Holdings will invest more than ¥1 trillion to build a new manufacturing plant in Iwate Prefecture, Japan, for the mass production of NAND flash memory. Kioxia is expected to announce the construction plan on August 27.
South Korean brokerages said that NVIDIA's 70% revenue growth expectation is based on supply limits rather than actual demand, while Amazon's (AMZNUS) AWS plans to additionally purchase 2 million NVIDIA GPUs equipped with next-generation Vera CPUs by fiscal 2029, driving the after-hours gains.
Han Ji-young of Qimo Securities believes that although the third-quarter gross margin guidance of 74.0% is below the expected 75.0%, the 70% revenue growth rate is the core factor, increasing certainty around demand for memory chips such as HBM high-bandwidth memory and potentially reviving investment sentiment in the semiconductor sector. $SK Hynix
