NVIDIA Breaks the Mold: Demand So Strong, the Only Limit Is Production Capacity
Exceeding Expectations Wasn't Enough; This Quarter's Exceeding Margins, and the Stock Rises
NVIDIA's second-quarter earnings report marks the beginning of a new era in the company's growth story. Revenue exceeded expectations at $96.2 billion, while earnings per share reached $2.22. However, the crucial question was how these results were received by the market.
Exceeding Expectations Widens
In the last four quarters, NVIDIA had experienced a decline in its stock price despite exceeding expectations. This quarter, however, the picture changed. Earnings per share exceeded expectations by approximately 6%, while revenue surpassed expectations by 4-5%. More importantly, guidance for the next quarter reached $108 billion, approximately 4% above market expectations. The stock rose more than 5% in after-market trading, reaching $222.
Demand Is So Strong, the Only Limit Is Production
CEO Jensen Huang's message in his post-earnings conference call was clear: Demand is very, very strong and accelerating. The company's target growth of approximately 70% for fiscal year 2028 is significantly above the 45% predicted by analysts. According to Huang, this figure is not because demand will increase by 70%, but because NVIDIA's supply capacity can grow by a maximum of 70%. In an unconstrained scenario, growth would be much higher.
New Dynamics of Growth
The most critical shift in NVIDIA's growth outlook is that demand is no longer coming solely from large cloud providers. Dominant AI projects, NeoClouds, AI startups, and enterprise customers now account for roughly half of the business, and this segment is growing at approximately 100% annually. This market could grow larger than the current cloud economy over time.
Each new architecture increases NVIDIA's economic share per data center. The revenue per gigawatt opportunity is increasing from approximately $18 billion at Hopper to $25 billion at Grace Blackwell and $40 billion at Vera Rubin. This shows that growth is not just about selling more GPUs, but about each new generation of AI data centers bringing more money to NVIDIA.
Conclusion: The Mold Has Been Broken
NVIDIA's quarterly results signal a significant shift in market perception of the company. Now, it's not just about exceeding expectations, but expanding the margin of exceeding expectations and providing strong future guidance that is becoming the key factor determining share performance. Demand is so strong that NVIDIA's only limit is production capacity.
