#SKHynixSurgesOver5%
The Memory Rally Has a Bigger Test Ahead
Nvidia’s latest earnings did more than beat expectations. They strengthened the entire AI hardware supply chain, and SK Hynix is one of the clearest beneficiaries. The stock jumped more than 5% at the open as investors immediately repriced expectations for high-bandwidth memory demand. But after such a strong reaction, the more important question is no longer whether AI memory demand is strong. It is whether SK Hynix can turn this catalyst into a sustained breakout.
The price structure is improving quickly. SK Hynix has recovered from the recent $1,050–$1,100 area and is now pressing against the $1,290–$1,310 resistance zone. This is the level that can separate a normal rebound from a new momentum leg. A decisive daily close above $1,310, supported by strong turnover, would signal that buyers are willing to absorb the supply sitting around the previous highs.
The first level I would watch on any pullback is $1,250. Holding this area would keep the immediate bullish structure intact. Below that, $1,200 becomes the next important demand zone, while $1,180 is the deeper structural level. A pullback into these areas would not automatically mean the trend has failed; the reaction of buyers there would tell us much more than the size of the pullback itself.
On the upside, $1,310 is the first major confirmation level, $1,400 is the next psychological target, and $1,500 would represent a much larger momentum extension. The important point is that price should not simply spike through resistance and immediately fall back. A genuine breakout normally becomes more convincing when the former resistance area is defended as support.
Volume is another part of the story. Strong turnover during the advance suggests that the move has meaningful participation behind it. But if price continues climbing while volume fades sharply, I would become more cautious because that can indicate that late buyers are chasing momentum rather than institutions building fresh positions.
The institutional angle is especially important after the Nvidia catalyst. Foreign and institutional flows into Korean semiconductor names can provide the fuel required for a multi-session continuation. If those flows remain positive while SK Hynix holds above $1,250, the rally has a healthier foundation. If foreign buying quickly reverses and the stock starts losing support, the Nvidia reaction could prove much shorter-lived than the market currently expects.
The fundamental story remains powerful. Nvidia’s quarterly revenue reached $96.22 billion, up 106% year over year, while Data Center revenue climbed to roughly $89 billion. Its next-quarter revenue outlook was around $108 billion. Nvidia also pointed to ongoing memory constraints and higher memory costs. For SK Hynix, that matters directly because HBM has become one of the critical bottlenecks in scaling AI computing capacity.
There is also a company-specific tailwind. SK Hynix announced a $29 billion share buyback and cancellation program running from August 20 through November 19. When strong AI-related demand is combined with aggressive shareholder returns, the stock has two different sources of support: improving earnings expectations and capital being returned to shareholders.
Still, this rally should not be treated as risk-free. Semiconductor stocks are highly sensitive to expectations. When the market becomes extremely optimistic, even strong earnings can produce a sell-the-news reaction if future growth has already been priced in. That is why the $1,290–$1,310 zone matters so much. The market needs to prove that buyers can hold the breakout rather than simply create another temporary spike.
The bullish scenario is a daily close above $1,310 followed by a successful retest. If $1,310 turns into support, $1,400 becomes the next logical target, with $1,500 as the larger psychological level. Strong volume and continued strength across Nvidia and the broader semiconductor complex would provide additional confirmation.
The bearish scenario starts with rejection below $1,310 and a subsequent break under $1,250. That would show that the first breakout attempt failed. Losing $1,200 would be more concerning because it would expose the deeper $1,180 area. A sustained break below $1,180 would significantly weaken the current bullish structure and suggest that the market needs a larger reset.
The bigger picture is simple: Nvidia has reignited the AI semiconductor trade, but SK Hynix now has to prove the move technically. The fundamentals provide the fuel, institutional flows provide the participation, and the $1,310 breakout provides the confirmation. If resistance becomes support, the memory rally can enter another expansion phase. If resistance continues rejecting price, consolidation is more likely than an immediate continuation.
For me, the most important signal is not today’s 5% jump. It is what SK Hynix does after the excitement fades. A strong company can have a strong catalyst, but the market still needs to build a sustainable structure around it. $1,310 is therefore the line to watch, while $1,250 and $1,200 define the key downside checkpoints.
