SPCX: Rebound After the Unlock — Can $150 Come Back?
SPCX is showing some resilience after the latest insider unlock pressure. The stock closed August 25 around $138.44, up about 2.55% on the session, while the latest perpetual market data is around $137.3. That puts price back above the important $135 IPO reference, but the bigger question is whether buyers can turn this rebound into a sustained recovery rather than another rejection near overhead supply.
Price structure
The short-term structure is still mixed rather than fully bullish. SPCX fell from the mid-$140s into the $130 area after the August 20 unlock, then reclaimed part of that decline. The recent cash-market range shows $130.39–$149.80 as an important battlefield, with $135 acting as the first major pivot. As long as price holds above $135, the rebound structure remains alive; losing that level would weaken the recovery considerably.
24-hour and 7-day picture
On the latest completed cash session, SPCX gained roughly 2.55%, but over the previous seven days it is still slightly below the August 19 close of $139.65. In other words, buyers have improved the short-term momentum without yet proving that the broader weekly downtrend has been reversed. That distinction matters because a strong daily candle inside a wider range is not the same thing as a confirmed breakout.
Volume and liquidity
Volume remains unusually important because the unlock dramatically increased the amount of stock that can potentially change hands. August 20 saw roughly 119 million shares traded, while August 21 recorded about 78 million and August 25 about 41 million. The 319 million shares released on August 20 represented a substantial supply event, so the market now needs to absorb that supply before a clean trend can develop.
Unlock pressure
The key event behind this entire setup is the staggered lockup schedule. About 911.5 million shares became eligible after the first earnings-linked unlock on August 6, followed by another 319 million shares on August 20. The important point is that eligibility does not automatically mean immediate selling, but it does create a larger potential supply pool. SPCX surviving that pressure and reclaiming $138 is therefore constructive, although not definitive.
Liquidity and liquidation areas
For the cash stock, there is no reliable public liquidation map comparable to a crypto perpetual market, so I would not label specific prices as confirmed liquidation levels. For the SPCX perpetual, recent trading shows a practical liquidity zone around $134–$140, while the wider recent range extends toward $130 and $150. A move through $140 could force short-term traders to reposition, while failure around $145–$150 could attract renewed selling.
Major resistance
The first resistance is $140, followed by $145–$150. The $150 area is especially important because it was the original Nasdaq opening reference and has repeatedly acted as a psychological magnet. A daily close above $150 with expanding volume would be much more meaningful than an intraday spike because it would show that buyers are finally absorbing the post-unlock supply.
Major support
On the downside, $135 is the first line I would watch because it matches the IPO price and has become a major psychological pivot. Below that, the recent $130–$131 region becomes the next important demand area. A decisive break below $130 would damage the current rebound structure and put the stock back into price discovery below the IPO reference.
Psychological levels
The market is effectively divided into three psychological zones: $130, $135, and $150. $135 represents the IPO benchmark, $150 represents the original opening level, and $130 is the nearby downside area where buyers previously appeared. The strongest signal would be SPCX moving from $135 → $140 → $150 without repeatedly losing each level after reclaiming it.
Institutional and large-player positioning
There is evidence that institutional interest has not disappeared despite the volatility. Goldman Sachs data cited by MarketWatch showed SpaceX among the relatively small group of stocks overweighted by both hedge funds and mutual funds. At the same time, reports today say JPMorgan is exploring ways for insiders to use SpaceX shares as collateral before the normal waiting period, which adds another layer to the post-IPO liquidity story. These developments suggest continued institutional attention, but they should not automatically be interpreted as immediate buying pressure.
Derivatives positioning
The latest reported short-interest data available shows about 207.8 million shares sold short, equal to roughly 1.59% of public float, with about 3.1 days to cover. Short interest had increased 25.9% from the previous report, meaning there is some bearish positioning in the background. However, the percentage of float is still relatively small, so I would not call this a classic crowded-short setup.
Fundamental catalysts
The bullish narrative has received another boost from SpaceX's announcement of a planned $100 billion Starbase Louisiana project. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with the first launch targeted for 2029. The project is designed to support Starship launches and the company's longer-term AI-satellite ambitions. That gives investors another long-duration growth narrative, although the enormous capital requirements also create a valuation and execution risk.
AI and Starlink angle
The larger story is no longer only rockets. SpaceX is increasingly presenting Starlink, AI infrastructure and orbital computing as future growth engines. Recent reports also point to plans for Nvidia-powered AI satellites and major expansion of AI computing infrastructure. If these projects translate into measurable revenue growth, they could support a higher valuation; if execution or capital spending becomes the dominant concern, the same narrative could work in reverse.
Bullish scenario
The bullish setup becomes much stronger if SPCX holds $135–$138, reclaims $140, and then breaks $145 with clearly stronger volume. A sustained move through $150 would be the key confirmation that the post-unlock rebound has evolved into a new upside leg. Above $150, the market could start looking toward the $160–$170 region, but that would require genuine follow-through rather than a single momentum spike.
Bearish scenario
The bearish scenario starts if the rebound repeatedly fails between $140 and $150, followed by a loss of $135. A break below $130 would be the more serious structural warning because it would erase the recent recovery and leave the stock vulnerable to another deeper decline. The unlock remains the main supply risk, so a heavy-volume rejection after another attempt at $145–$150 would deserve particular attention.
My read
Right now, I would describe SPCX as a recovery attempt inside a still-unproven range, not a confirmed return to $150. The most important battle is $135 versus $150. Holding $135 keeps the rebound thesis technically credible, while reclaiming $150 would provide the first convincing evidence that buyers have absorbed enough of the post-unlock supply. Until then, the cleaner signal is to watch how price behaves around $140–$150 rather than assuming the rebound must continue.
The setup is therefore simple: $135 is the defense, $140 is the first breakout test, $145–$150 is the major supply zone, and $150 is the confirmation level. A sustained break above $150 would materially improve the structure; a failure below $135 would shift the advantage back toward sellers.
