JAPAN JUST ENTERED THE CRYPTO-NATIVE TRADING ERA
For years, crypto traders have lived in one world while traditional stock investors lived in another. One account for digital assets, another brokerage for equities, currency conversions, paperwork, regional restrictions, and multiple platforms to manage everything.
Gate’s launch of Japanese stock trading is changing that model.
Around 300 Japanese stocks are now available through Gate, giving eligible users access to major Tokyo Stock Exchange-listed companies while using USDT as the funding currency. Toyota, Sony, Nintendo, SoftBank Group, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group and Tokyo Electron are among the globally recognized names that make Japan one of the most important equity markets for international investors.
The real innovation is not simply adding more stocks. It is the integration.
A trader can now potentially manage crypto and access international equities through a connected trading ecosystem. USDT, which was traditionally used mainly for crypto trading, is becoming a bridge into global financial markets.
Japanese stock prices and position values are displayed in JPY, while Gate provides a USDT-based trading and settlement framework according to its platform rules. This removes the need for users to manually convert funds into Japanese yen or open a traditional Japanese brokerage account.
The Japanese market also operates on its normal schedule. Trading runs from 09:00–11:30 and 12:30–15:25 Japan Time, equivalent to 00:00–02:30 and 03:30–06:25 UTC. Traders should remember that this is different from crypto: the market has fixed trading hours and a midday break.
What makes this launch even more interesting is the broader strategy behind it.
Gate has already expanded beyond crypto with access to U.S., Hong Kong and Korean equities. Japanese stocks now strengthen the idea of a unified multi-asset trading environment. Instead of thinking only in terms of BTC, ETH and altcoins, traders can begin building watchlists across technology, banking, automobiles, gaming, semiconductors and digital assets.
Japan itself offers a fascinating investment landscape.
Toyota represents global automotive leadership. Sony has powerful businesses across gaming, entertainment, music and technology. Nintendo remains one of the world's most iconic gaming companies. Tokyo Electron is deeply connected to the global semiconductor industry. SoftBank provides exposure to technology investments and AI-related growth stories.
At the same time, Japanese companies have been undergoing important changes in corporate governance and capital efficiency, with increasing attention toward shareholder returns, buybacks, dividends and return on equity.
However, access should never be confused with guaranteed profit.
Japanese stocks still carry market risk, macroeconomic risk and exposure to movements in the yen and global interest rates. Users should also understand the platform structure before trading. The economic rights and shareholder experience may differ from owning directly registered shares through a conventional brokerage account. Traditional voting rights may not apply, while short selling and margin trading are not currently part of the standard model.
My view is simple: this is bigger than a new trading feature.
It represents the continuing convergence of crypto and traditional finance. Stablecoins are evolving from simple trading tools into gateways for accessing broader financial markets. The future trader may no longer ask, “Am I a crypto trader or a stock investor?”
The better question may be: “Which asset class offers the best opportunity today?”
Gate’s Japanese stock launch gives traders another market to study, another economy to understand and another set of world-class companies to watch.
The smartest approach is not to rush blindly. Learn the companies. Understand the trading hours. Check regional eligibility and platform rules. Start with manageable position sizes and build a watchlist based on real research.
Japan’s market is now much closer to the crypto-native world.
And for traders who understand both worlds, that could open an entirely new way of thinking about opportunity.
