HOOD — The Real Battle Is Between $100 and $110
HOOD is showing a much more interesting structure after last week’s explosive move. The stock jumped sharply into the $109–$110 area, then pulled back toward $103. The important part is that the rally was accompanied by unusually heavy volume, which means genuine market participation was present. But the following pullback also shows that sellers are still active near the recent highs. Right now, HOOD looks like a stock trying to prove whether that breakout has enough strength to continue.

The $100 area has become the key psychological reference. Holding above it keeps the recent recovery structure relatively constructive, while sustained weakness below it would suggest that the momentum from last week's rally is fading. The next downside areas to monitor are around $95–$96, followed by the $91–$93 region. These levels matter because they represent previous areas where buyers and sellers exchanged significant volume.

On the upside, $108–$110 is the immediate decision zone. Friday's high was close to $110, making it the clearest recent resistance. A convincing move through that region would show that sellers are no longer able to contain the recovery. The next major psychological area would then be $115–$120, where the stock previously encountered stronger supply.

Volume is especially important here. Friday's huge increase in volume gave the rally credibility, but Monday's decline after that surge shows that some participants used the strength to lock in gains. I would therefore pay more attention to whether future moves toward $110 are accompanied by expanding participation than to the size of any single candle.

The fundamental story behind HOOD has also changed considerably. Robinhood generated $1.31 billion in Q2 revenue, up 32% year over year, while options activity and other businesses continued expanding. This makes HOOD less dependent on cryptocurrency trading than it was previously. The company is increasingly becoming a broader financial platform rather than simply a crypto-sensitive stock.

The July operating data reinforces that diversification. Equity volume increased strongly and options activity reached record levels, while cryptocurrency volume declined significantly year over year. That creates an interesting contrast: crypto sentiment can still move HOOD's share price, but the company's underlying revenue engine is becoming broader.

That distinction matters for the next move. If Bitcoin and the Nasdaq remain supportive while Robinhood's equity and options activity continues growing, HOOD has multiple sources of fundamental support. But if the broader risk market weakens at the same time that crypto activity remains soft, the stock could face pressure despite its stronger business diversification.

The derivatives market adds another layer of volatility. HOOD has significant options activity, so large price movements around heavily watched strikes can become self-reinforcing. This is one reason I would not treat every sudden move through $100 or $110 as a confirmed trend change. Price acceptance after the move is more informative than a temporary spike.

Market scenarios

Bullish structure: HOOD holds above the $100 region, buyers regain control around $108–$110, and the stock establishes sustained strength above that resistance. In that situation, the $115–$120 area becomes the next major zone to watch. The strongest confirmation would come from expanding volume and continued strength in the broader Nasdaq and crypto markets.

Bearish structure: HOOD repeatedly fails near $108–$110 and eventually loses $100 with increasing selling pressure. That would weaken the recent recovery and bring $95–$96 into focus, followed by the $91–$93 region. A sustained move below that lower area would indicate that the recent momentum phase has largely failed.

Trading framework

Rather than chasing a large green candle, the cleaner analytical framework is to watch support → resistance → volume → confirmation. A breakout is more meaningful when price can remain above the broken level instead of immediately falling back into the previous range. Likewise, a breakdown becomes more convincing when the market cannot reclaim the lost support.

The $100–$110 range is therefore the key battlefield. The middle of that range provides less information than the edges. Reactions around $100 and $110 should tell us considerably more about whether HOOD is entering another expansion phase or simply consolidating after its recent surge.

My current view: HOOD's fundamentals remain constructive, but the chart needs confirmation. $100 is the important defensive reference, while $108–$110 is the major upside test. Until one side clearly wins that range, patience is more valuable than assuming the next large candle will automatically continue the previous move.
