⚽ Today’s Pre-Match Predictions
Three major fixtures from Serie A and the Premier League created a strong matchday for prediction analysis. I focused on home advantage, attacking quality, tactical matchups, recent team direction, expected lineups and the areas where each side could create the biggest problems.

① Bologna vs Lazio | August 25 | 00:30 (UTC+8)

My prediction: Bologna 1–1 Lazio

This was the most difficult match for me to separate because both teams had realistic routes to victory.

Bologna had the home advantage at the Renato Dall’Ara and were expected to take the initiative early. Their 4-3-3 structure offered attacking width, with Orsolini and the wide players expected to stretch Lazio’s defensive line while Dovbyk provided a central target. Lazio, meanwhile, had enough quality in midfield and attack to punish Bologna whenever space appeared behind the home side’s full-backs.

The midfield battle was always going to be important. If Bologna could control possession and keep Lazio pinned back, the home side had a strong chance of creating the better opportunities. If Lazio could win the transition battle, their attacking players had enough pace and movement to turn one counterattack into a goal.

Lazio also received a boost before the match, with Romagnoli, Isaksen and Nuno Tavares travelling with the squad.

My expected game script was a cautious first half, with both teams trying to avoid giving away an early goal. I expected Bologna to have more possession while Lazio looked dangerous during transitions.

My predicted score:

Bologna 1–1 Lazio

Confidence: 68%

The match ultimately finished Bologna 0–1 Lazio, meaning Lazio’s ability to keep the game tight and find the decisive moment proved more important than the home advantage.

② Roma vs Fiorentina | August 25 | 02:45 (UTC+8)

My prediction: Roma 2–1 Fiorentina

This was my strongest selection before kickoff.

Roma had the home advantage and entered the match with a very interesting attacking structure under Gian Piero Gasperini. The combination of Dybala’s creativity and Malen’s movement gave Roma multiple ways to attack Fiorentina.

The biggest tactical advantage for Roma was their ability to create space between Fiorentina’s midfield and defensive line. If Dybala could receive the ball in those areas, Roma could quickly turn possession into dangerous attacks.

Fiorentina had enough individual quality to compete, but their defensive organization was the key concern for me. Roma’s intensity at the Olimpico could force Fiorentina into deeper positions, especially if the home side scored first.

Team news also slightly favored Roma. Fiorentina were missing Fabiano Parisi, while Rolando Mandragora remained a concern because of his back problem. Roma also had fitness concerns around Lorenzo Pellegrini and Wesley.

My pre-match prediction was:

Roma 2–1 Fiorentina

Confidence: 76%

But Roma went far beyond my prediction.

Final result:

Roma 4–0 Fiorentina

Donyell Malen produced a sensational performance with a hat-trick, scoring in the 27th, 52nd and 60th minutes, while Nicolò Pisilli added the fourth in the 86th minute. Paulo Dybala was equally important, providing all three assists for Malen. Roma dominated possession and finished with 17 shots compared with Fiorentina’s nine.

The biggest takeaway for me is that Roma’s attacking chemistry was even stronger than expected. Dybala’s ability to create between the lines combined perfectly with Malen’s movement behind the defense.

This result makes Roma one of the teams I will be watching very closely in the next Serie A fixtures.

③ Fulham vs Chelsea | August 25 | 03:00 (UTC+8)

My prediction: Fulham 1–2 Chelsea

This was another match where I gave Chelsea the edge, mainly because of their attacking depth and the quality available in the final third.

The biggest storyline was the start of the Xabi Alonso era at Chelsea. His 3-4-2-1 structure was expected to give Chelsea more attacking freedom and faster transitions, with Palmer, Rogers and João Pedro providing a very dangerous attacking combination.

Fulham had the advantage of playing at Craven Cottage and were never going to make this an easy derby. Their ability to transition quickly and attack the spaces behind Chelsea’s wing-backs was the biggest threat.

The confirmed lineups showed Chelsea using a 3-4-2-1, with Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers behind João Pedro. Fulham lined up in a 4-2-3-1 with Gonzalo Garcia leading the attack.

My prediction was:

Fulham 1–2 Chelsea

Confidence: 73%

Again, the actual match produced more goals than my prediction.

Final result:

Fulham 2–3 Chelsea

João Pedro scored inside the opening minute, Morgan Rogers added another, and Cole Palmer completed Chelsea’s third goal. Fulham responded twice through Josh King and Gonzalo García, making the final stages extremely tense.

The result confirmed two things for me: Chelsea have serious attacking potential under Alonso, but there are still defensive and goalkeeping issues that opponents can exploit. Chelsea created enough attacking danger to win, but conceding twice after taking control shows that the new system still needs refinement.

🏆 My Strongest Pick

Roma were my strongest pre-match selection.

My original prediction:

Roma 2–1 Fiorentina

Actual result:

Roma 4–0 Fiorentina

The result was much stronger than expected, and the performance was even more convincing than the scoreline suggests. Roma controlled the match, created the better opportunities and completely disrupted Fiorentina’s defensive structure.

My final prediction record for Issue 06:

Bologna 1–1 Lazio
Actual: Bologna 0–1 Lazio

Roma 2–1 Fiorentina
Actual: Roma 4–0 Fiorentina

Fulham 1–2 Chelsea
Actual: Fulham 2–3 Chelsea

The main lesson from these three matches is that pre-match predictions should focus on structure rather than simply choosing the biggest team.

Bologna vs Lazio showed how a balanced tactical battle can be decided by one moment.

Roma vs Fiorentina showed how an aggressive attacking setup can completely overwhelm an opponent when the creative and finishing pieces connect.

Fulham vs Chelsea showed the difference between attacking strength and defensive stability: Chelsea had enough firepower to score three, but Fulham still found two goals.

My strongest takeaway from this round is Roma.

Malen’s hat-trick, Dybala’s three assists and Roma’s overall control made their opening performance one of the most impressive displays of the matchday.

For future predictions, I will continue looking beyond the basic win/draw/loss market and focus on expected game script, tactical matchups, home advantage, attacking efficiency, defensive weaknesses and lineup changes.
