A busy week is beginning for investors. The Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium, Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Warsh's speech, critical inflation data, and Nvidia's eagerly awaited earnings report are among the key developments that will determine the direction of the markets.
Tuesday: Consumer Confidence and Earnings Preparation Before Nvidia
The first important data of the week will be the US Consumer Confidence Index (Conference Board), to be released on Tuesday at 5:00 PM Turkish time. This data is closely watched as it measures household optimism about the economic outlook. However, the main focus of the day will be Nvidia (NVDA) earnings, to be released after the market closes. Wall Street expects the company to report record revenue of approximately $92 billion and earnings of $2.09 per share. Nvidia shares have closed lower for the past six trading days, while options markets expect a move of approximately 5.3% in the share price after the earnings report. Investors will closely watch the company's comments on demand for its AI infrastructure and its defense against financial sustainability concerns.
Wednesday: Australian Inflation and US Growth Data
On Wednesday at 04:30 GMT, the Australian Consumer Price Index (CPI) will be released. This data may provide clues about the Reserve Bank of Australia's future policy steps. Following this, at 15:30 GMT, the second estimate of the US second-quarter GDP growth data will be released. Initial estimates pointed to growth of around 1.5% on an annualized basis, representing a slowdown compared to the previous quarter.
Thursday: Jackson Hole Begins and Jobless Claims
On Thursday, the Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium, organized by the Kansas City Fed, begins. This year's theme is "Financial Innovation: Its Impact on Payments and Policy." Weekly jobless claims will be released at 15:30 GMT on the first day of the symposium. This data is watched as an important indicator of the current state of the labor market.
Friday: Fed Chairman Warsh's Speech and Core PCE
Friday is the most critical day of the week. At 15:30 Turkish time, the Core Personal Consumption Expenditures (Core PCE) Price Index, the Fed's preferred indicator for inflation, will be released. This data will provide important signals about the direction of inflation. At 17:00 Turkish time, the symposium will culminate with a speech by Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh. Warsh is expected to deliver messages that will guide the markets in his first Jackson Hole speech since taking office. Analysts believe that, unlike his predecessors, Warsh may avoid directly signaling interest rates and focus more on the structural problems of monetary policy.
