Japan’s Stock Market Just Moved Closer to the Crypto-Native Investor
Gate has now opened access to approximately 300 Japanese stocks listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, bringing major names such as Toyota, Sony, Nintendo, SoftBank Group, Mitsubishi UFJ and Tokyo Electron into the same broader multi-asset environment. The launch is significant because Japanese equities are no longer sitting in a completely separate traditional-market workflow for Gate users.

The biggest change is the settlement experience. Gate says users can trade these Japanese stocks using USDT, without separately converting funds into Japanese yen for the trading process. Prices and position values are displayed in JPY, while trading funds and fees are settled in USDT under Gate’s applicable rules.

The first batch is deliberately focused on recognizable companies. Toyota, Sony, Nintendo, SoftBank Group, Mitsubishi UFJ and Tokyo Electron are among the initial names, giving users exposure across automobiles, entertainment, technology, financial services and investment/telecom-related businesses rather than concentrating the launch around one sector.

What makes this broader than a simple stock-listing update is Gate’s multi-market direction. Gate says its stock infrastructure now covers U.S., Hong Kong, Korean and Japanese equities, with more than 12,800 stocks and ETFs across these markets. Japanese stocks add another major market to that unified trading ecosystem.

Trading hours are also worth knowing. Japanese equities are available during Tokyo trading sessions, from 09:00–11:30 and 12:30–15:25 Japan Time, with a midday break. That means the experience is still tied to the underlying Japanese market rather than operating like a 24/7 crypto asset.

The timing is interesting from a market perspective. Japan’s benchmark has delivered a very strong longer-term run, but the market pulled back about 0.9% on August 24, showing that even a strong equity trend can experience short-term profit-taking and volatility.

For me, the more interesting question is asset allocation. A user who already follows crypto markets can now look at Japanese companies alongside other global assets instead of treating digital assets and traditional equities as completely separate categories. That creates a broader framework for comparing technology, consumer brands, financial companies and industrial businesses across regions.

But access does not remove investment risk. Japanese equities remain exposed to earnings, valuation, currency movements, interest rates, economic growth and broader global risk sentiment. Using USDT as the settlement currency makes the funding process simpler, but it does not eliminate the underlying risks of owning or trading Japanese stocks.

The launch also shows where the wider market is heading. The boundary between crypto-native platforms and traditional finance continues to become less rigid, with stocks, ETFs, tokenized assets, IPO opportunities and digital assets increasingly appearing within the same broader financial ecosystem. Gate's Japanese stock expansion is another step in that direction.

My takeaway: the headline is not simply “300 Japanese stocks are now available.” The more important development is that Gate is continuing to build a multi-market investment environment, connecting Japanese equities with its existing stock and digital-asset infrastructure.

Toyota, Sony and Nintendo may be the names attracting the most attention, but the bigger story is the infrastructure underneath them: more markets, more asset classes and fewer barriers between traditional finance and the digital-asset world.
