$NVDA: Seven Red Sessions, But the Real Test Is Still Ahead
NVIDIA is entering earnings with the stock under pressure. NVDA finished around $209.89 on August 24, down roughly 2.25% on the day, after trading between about $208.69 and $215.89. The important part of the structure is that sellers have pushed price lower for seven consecutive sessions, leaving the stock roughly 7% below where this decline began.

The short-term trend has clearly weakened. Recent sessions show a sequence of lower highs, with August 19 near $222.87, August 20 near $219.86, August 21 near $218.74 and today's high around $215.89. That creates a descending resistance structure rather than an immediate breakout setup.

Volume is not showing capitulation yet. Today's trading volume is around 78.9M shares, below the roughly 98.5M average daily volume reported by Robinhood, while the recent sessions have generally traded around 90M–103M shares. That suggests selling pressure is meaningful, but today's decline has not yet produced an extreme volume spike that would clearly signal a final washout.

The key support area is $208–$210. Today's low near $208.69 sits almost directly on that zone, making it the first level I would watch for buyers. If NVDA stabilizes here and recovers $215–$216, the immediate bearish momentum would start to weaken. A clean break below $208 would instead expose the stock to the psychological $200 level.

Above the market, $215–$220 is the first resistance band. Reclaiming $216 would recover today's breakdown area, while $220 would be more important because it lines up with the recent cluster of highs. Beyond that, $225 becomes the next meaningful hurdle, followed by the previous 52-week high around $236.54.

Options positioning shows plenty of event risk. NVDA options activity has been unusually large around earnings, with recent reporting showing millions of contracts traded and open interest in the many millions. Current put/call open interest is around 0.81, meaning call open interest exceeds put open interest, but that ratio should not be treated as a standalone bullish signal because options are also being used for hedging and event protection.

The bigger liquidity event is earnings itself. NVIDIA is scheduled to release fiscal Q2 FY27 results after the market closes on August 26. With the stock already falling into the report, the market is positioned for a major repricing depending on revenue, margins, Blackwell demand and forward guidance.

Fundamentally, expectations remain extremely high. NVIDIA previously reported FY26 revenue of about $215.9B, up 65% year over year, with full-year net income of roughly $120.1B. That growth explains why investors continue to give the company a premium valuation, but it also creates a difficult setup: a simple earnings beat may not be enough if future guidance fails to exceed what the market has already priced in.

AI demand remains the central bullish catalyst. The market wants evidence that hyperscaler and enterprise spending on AI infrastructure is still accelerating. Strong Blackwell demand, healthy data-center growth and confident forward guidance would give investors a reason to look beyond the recent seven-day decline and rebuild exposure.

The broader market is currently a headwind. The Nasdaq and S&P 500 are under pressure, while the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index has fallen about 2.6% today. NVIDIA itself dropped around 2.3%, while Micron and Broadcom also declined. This means NVDA is not selling off in isolation; semiconductor risk is being reduced across the sector ahead of several major catalysts.

Macro risk is also sitting in the background. Investors are watching elevated Treasury yields, upcoming Federal Reserve commentary at Jackson Hole, the PCE inflation report and renewed geopolitical tensions. Higher long-term yields can pressure high-growth technology valuations, so even a strong NVIDIA report will need to compete with the broader risk environment.

Bullish scenario: The first confirmation would be a defense of $208–$210, followed by a reclaim of $215–$216. A sustained move above $220 would strengthen the recovery structure, while a break through $225 could bring $230 and eventually the $236.54 high back into focus. The strongest version of this scenario would combine the technical recovery with earnings that beat expectations and stronger forward guidance.

Bearish scenario: If $208 fails decisively, the $200 psychological level becomes the next major test. Losing $200 after disappointing earnings or weak guidance would confirm that the seven-session decline is more than a pre-earnings pullback. In that case, I would avoid assuming that every dip is automatically a buying opportunity.

My read: NVDA's long-term AI story remains powerful, but the short-term chart has lost momentum and the market is demanding a lot from the August 26 report. For me, $208–$210 is the immediate defense zone and $220 is the first meaningful recovery confirmation. Until one of those levels breaks decisively, the cleanest interpretation is a market waiting for information rather than a confirmed new trend.
