Launching a points system is not about “farming freebies”—it turns trading into a large-scale game of progression
The launch of Gate’s event points system may appear to simply add a “Points” entry, but in reality, it is more like repackaging familiar user trading behavior: in the past, trading ended once the transaction was complete; now, trading, participating in activities, and completing tasks can all become part of accumulating points. In other words, the platform is shifting from “users come to trade” to “users come and want to complete a few more tasks.”
The most interesting aspect of this mechanism is how it changes users’ psychological expectations toward activities. In the past, when participating in an event, many people’s first reaction was, “How much can I earn?” With a points system, users may start calculating, “How far am I from the next tier?” Once this mindset takes hold, platform user activity can easily increase further.
Of course, points themselves are not a magic formula for wealth. What ultimately determines their appeal is what they can be redeemed for, how different events are calculated, and whether the reward rules remain stable. If the rules are transparent enough for users to clearly see the relationship between their input and returns, the points system can become a long-term operations tool; if the rules are so complicated that they resemble a math competition problem, users may leave the page before they can figure them out.
From the platform’s perspective, the value of event points lies more in user engagement. They can turn one-off event participation into continuous behavioral incentives, motivating users to “do it one more time.” For active traders, this type of mechanism is especially likely to create positive feedback.
Therefore, rather than saying that Gate is launching a points system, it would be more accurate to say that it is giving users a “progress bar.” Trading platforms are increasingly resembling games, which is not necessarily a bad thing. The key is for the rewards to be real, the rules to be clear, and the experience to be smooth. After all, users can accept fighting monsters and leveling up, but what they fear most is spending half a day fighting, only to discover that the Boss has suddenly changed the rules. #Gate事件积分系统上线
