Stellar Maintains Lead in Tokenized Non-US Sovereign Debt
Stellar has maintained its lead in tokenized non-US sovereign debt since February.
The network hosts a total of $490 million in products denominated in local currencies.
Institutional platforms utilize the $XLM ecosystem's low-cost, compliance-focused issuance infrastructure.
Regulatory clarity in the EU and the UK could drive an increase in new issuances.
By tokenizing and hosting approximately $490 million in non-US sovereign debt on-chain, Stellar has secured the top spot among public blockchains in this sector. According to recent on-chain data, it has held the leading position in this category since February. This trend demonstrates that the tokenization of real-world assets is no longer confined to US government bonds and dollar-backed stablecoins.
Stellar has emerged as a key network for the issuance of tokenized non-US sovereign debt instruments. These products on the network are reportedly held by institutional custodians and fund platforms and are issued in various local currencies.
Stellar hosts approximately $490 million in tokenized non-US sovereign debt, placing it ahead of other networks in this space.
The rate of growth since February has also been notable. New issuances have reportedly outpaced those of competing Layer 1 blockchains focused on this sector, thereby giving Stellar a more prominent position in regulated securities infrastructure. Institutional adoption is expanding.
On-chain debt instruments stand out for their ability to reduce intermediary layers in cross-border transactions, enable round-the-clock settlement, offer programmable structures, and provide direct access to funds. This allows asset managers to execute atomic swaps using stablecoins, while enabling issuers to lower issuance costs.
Exchanges and custodians are also expanding their product offerings to serve funds originating from Europe, Latin America, and Asia. From the perspective of developers, Stellar’s low transaction fees and built-in compliance features make the network a preferred choice for regulated securities transactions.
This move signals a broader economic trend toward reducing the dominance of the US dollar in reserve and settlement infrastructures. Clarified regulations regarding distributed ledger technology-based securities in the European Union and the United Kingdom could support new issuances in the near future.
Other smart contract platforms, such as Ethereum and Polygon, are also seeking to attract issuers of real-world assets. However, current data indicates that Stellar has established a distinct advantage in this segment. Key areas to watch closely in the period ahead include reserve verification, secondary market liquidity, and cross-chain interoperability standards.
