BTC at $79K: The Breakout Is Only Half the Story
Bitcoin is getting very close to the $79,000 area, and this is where the chart becomes much more interesting.
A move from the $77K region into $79K would put BTC directly against a major liquidity and psychological resistance zone. The obvious level above it is $80,000, so I would expect plenty of traders to be watching the same area.
But I don't want to treat $79K as simply another number.
If BTC pushes above $79K with strong spot buying and actually holds the breakout, the market could quickly move toward $80K–$80.5K. A clean acceptance above $80.5K would strengthen the continuation setup and bring $82K, followed by the $84K–$85K region, into focus.
The more interesting setup could come from a retest.
If BTC breaks $79K, pulls back toward $76.5K–$77.2K, and buyers defend that zone, former resistance would be turning into support. That would give the bullish structure much more credibility than simply watching one large green candle.
On the other hand, a sharp spike above $79K followed by an immediate rejection back below $78.2K would tell a different story.
That could be a liquidity sweep rather than a genuine breakout.
In that situation, I would watch $76.5K first, followed by $74K–$74.8K. Losing those levels would weaken the current bullish structure and increase the probability of a deeper retracement.
Volume is the confirmation I would pay the most attention to.
Price breaking resistance without meaningful spot participation can easily become a trap. If spot volume expands together with the breakout, the move has a stronger foundation.
Funding is another important piece.
If perpetual funding becomes excessively positive while BTC is sitting directly under $80K, leveraged longs can become crowded. That doesn't automatically mean BTC must fall, but it increases the risk of a sharp shakeout.
My roadmap is therefore straightforward:
$79K → breakout battle
$80K–$80.5K → major psychological resistance
$82K → first continuation target
$84K–$85K → next expansion zone
$76.5K–$77.2K → important bullish retest area
$74K–$74.8K → deeper demand zone
The key lesson is simple:
Don't chase the breakout just because everyone is talking about $80K.
Let BTC prove the level.
A strong close above resistance is useful.
A successful retest is even better.
And if the breakout fails, protecting capital becomes more important than trying to predict the next candle.
Bitcoin is moving fast.
The question now isn't whether BTC can touch $79K.
The real question is whether it can hold above it and turn $79K into support.
That's where the next major move could be decided.
