#VitalikProposesNewEthereumScalingPath Vitalik Proposes New Ethereum

Vitalik Buterin is proposing a redesign of Ethereum aimed at making the network leaner, more scalable, and easier to verify. His “Lean Ethereum” ideas focus on reducing the amount of state validators must store and process. One proposal would move more state management toward validators while using zero-knowledge proofs, including a daily ZK-STARK proof, to verify large amounts of activity efficiently. Buterin has also backed a Bitcoin-inspired UTXO-style approach for simple payments, potentially reducing Ethereum’s storage burden. These ideas are part of a 2026 roadmap that prioritizes scalability, protocol simplification, privacy, and protection against quantum-computing threats.
Ethereum’s official roadmap says these technologies remain under research and are not yet guaranteed upgrades. If implemented successfully, the changes could make Ethereum cheaper to operate, easier for more participants to validate, and capable of supporting larger activity. However, the proposals are technically complex and could take years to develop and deploy.$ETH $BTC
