Gold is cooling down, but the bigger picture is still worth watching.
XAU/USD is trading around $4,320 today after reaching nearly $4,450 during the previous session. That rejection tells us something important: buyers are still interested in gold, but sellers are becoming active near the $4,400–$4,500 area.

The first level I am watching now is $4,300. As long as gold can stay above this area, the recent bullish structure has room to recover. If buyers reclaim $4,350 and then push through $4,400, the market could once again challenge $4,450. A confirmed break above $4,450 would put $4,500 directly in focus.

But the opposite scenario is also important. If $4,300 fails with strong selling pressure, I would watch $4,250 first and then the $4,200 region. A deeper move toward these levels would suggest that the market needs more time to absorb the strong rally seen over the past week.

The interesting part is that this pullback is happening after a very strong move. Reuters reported that gold gained around 9% over the previous week before Thursday's decline, while spot gold reached $4,449.39 before falling back.

Macro conditions are also giving gold a complicated setup. July U.S. PPI was unchanged, and expectations for a September Fed rate hike have fallen, which can support gold if it translates into lower yields and a softer dollar. At the same time, the dollar remains an important risk for gold because a stronger dollar can limit upside in the metal.

Another factor that should not be ignored is central-bank demand. Reuters reported that central banks bought about 289 tonnes of gold during Q2 2026, showing that demand is not coming only from short-term traders.

My key map is:

$4,300 — major short-term support
$4,250 — next downside level
$4,200 — stronger support
$4,350 — first recovery level
$4,400 — important resistance
$4,450 — breakout zone
$4,500 — major psychological resistance

For the next move, I would focus less on guessing and more on confirmation. If gold holds $4,300 and starts building higher lows, buyers could attempt another push toward $4,400–$4,450. If $4,300 breaks decisively, the market may need a deeper reset before another bullish attempt.

Volume is also important. A breakout above $4,450 with expanding participation would carry more weight than a thin move above resistance. If price rises without strong participation, the market could simply be sweeping liquidity before another reversal.

Gold is still in a high-volatility phase. The next clean signal should come from the reaction around $4,300 on the downside and $4,450–$4,500 on the upside.
