Wells Fargo is entering the tokenized deposits race

Banks aren’t fighting stablecoins anymore
They’re starting to copy the blueprint
Wells Fargo announced tokenized deposits for corporate clients starting this fall
The pilot will enable 24/7 USD to GBP settlement on Wells Fargo’s own blockchain, with more currencies expected to be added through 2027
This makes Wells Fargo the third major US bank moving in this direction after JPMorgan and Citi
But here’s the important difference between tokenized deposits and stablecoins
Tokenized deposits remain within the regulated and insured banking system
So the money still sits with the bank, but moves on blockchain rails
The bigger picture is simple
Banks are no longer asking whether blockchain has a place in finance
They’re figuring out how to use it to make traditional banking faster and more efficient
