Caixin: Cryptocurrency is one of the few assets that can be pursued for repayment among Zhou Shiming and his wife’s debts

PANews, July 29, reported that Caixin published an article titled "The Boxer’s Collapsed Balance Sheet." It disclosed that, for the six natural-person creditor friends of Zou Shiming and his wife, compared with other losses, the money invested in P2P and virtual currencies is the only category that still potentially allows for recovery. The properties have been sold, luxury goods have been written down at a discount, the boxing gym’s renovations have been written off, and the cross-industry projects have been shut down—these are irreversible sunk costs. But P2P and virtual currencies are different: if the platform has not been fully liquidated, or if the wallet addresses can still be traced, then in theory there is room for subrogation and recovery. For example, Beijing procuratorial authorities once used a cross-through review, combined with blockchain big-data analytics tools, to trace the flow of virtual currency and successfully recovered more than 89 million yuan in stolen funds.
