#GUSDYieldRisesto3.8%

Some updates don't make big headlines, but they quietly change how people use a product.

The latest GUSD upgrade is one of those.

For a long time, stablecoins have mainly been treated as a temporary parking place. Traders move into them after taking profits, wait for better market conditions, and eventually move back into risk assets. During that waiting period, those funds often sit idle.

Gate seems to be challenging that idea.

With the latest upgrade, GUSD can now be minted 1:1 using USD1, making the process much more straightforward. It removes unnecessary steps and makes it easier for users already holding USD1 to enter the GUSD ecosystem.

What caught my attention isn't just the minting update—it's what happens after you hold GUSD.

Instead of simply preserving value, holders currently receive an annualized yield of 3.8%, with rewards automatically distributed every day. There's nothing to claim manually and no need to keep moving funds from one product to another just to earn a return.

That alone is useful.

But the bigger picture is that GUSD isn't designed to stop at passive income.

The same asset can also be used for Launchpool, Pre-IPO subscriptions, and selected wealth management products. In other words, you're not choosing between earning yield or joining new opportunities. One stablecoin is designed to support both.

I think this reflects a much bigger trend in crypto.

The competition between stablecoins is gradually shifting away from one simple question—"Can it hold its peg?"—to a more practical one:

"What can I actually do with it after I own it?"

That's where products like GUSD are trying to stand out.

By combining U.S. Treasury-backed real-world assets with Gate ecosystem revenue, the platform is creating a stablecoin that aims to be more than just digital cash. It's becoming part of a broader financial ecosystem where idle funds can remain productive instead of waiting on the sidelines.

Will a 3.8% annualized yield make someone rich overnight?

Of course not.

But that's not the purpose.

The real value is efficiency.

If you're already planning to keep part of your portfolio in stable assets, earning daily rewards while maintaining access to additional opportunities is simply a smarter use of capital than letting those funds sit still.

Sometimes the best portfolio upgrade isn't finding another token.

It's finding a better way to use the assets you already hold.
