ME News, July 29 (UTC+8): Justin Ryan Schmidt, founder of crypto investment fund Translunar Crypto LP, was sentenced to 37 months in prison by a U.S. court for a tax evasion case. The U.S. Department of Justice said the 46-year-old Schmidt pleaded guilty this year in the Austin federal court in Texas, where he was accused of falsely reporting income between 2020 and 2022—underreporting income by less than $5,000. Prosecutors said that in reality, he earned more than $7 million in income through the fund business between 2019 and 2022. It is reported that Schmidt founded Translunar in 2017, mainly investing in blockchain startups, with funds mainly coming from investors in the Austin area of Texas and the Aspen area of Colorado. The Criminal Investigation Division of the IRS arrested him on February 23, 2026, and he has been held in custody ever since. (Source: ChainCatcher)
