Myanmar passes an anti-network fraud law, under which cryptocurrency fraud can be punished by up to a life sentence without parole.
PANews, July 28 — According to reports by foreign media, the parliament backed by the Myanmar military passed an anti-network fraud bill on Tuesday. The bill provides that individuals who operate online scam compounds or carry out “digital currency fraud (cryptocurrency fraud)” may face life imprisonment at most.
In addition, if relevant personnel coerce others into committing online fraud through means such as violence, torture, or illegal detention, they may face imprisonment ranging from 10 years to life imprisonment; if the circumstances result in the victim’s death, the maximum penalty is death.
