July 28 — According to Reuters, regional sources in the Gulf say Oman has proposed a plan to Iran to establish a joint regional mechanism to manage the Strait of Hormuz, and to levy voluntary fees. The plan put forward by Oman has garnered regional support. The scheme is based on the Malacca Strait model, under which the relevant parties using the strait voluntarily contribute to navigation support, environmental protection, search and rescue operations, and so on. Under the plan, Iran will not control the Strait of Hormuz independently.
