ZEC price outlook: ZEC price falls below the $500 support level before the Ironwood network upgrade
ZEC loses the key $500 support level, aligning with the slowdown momentum in the broader cryptocurrency market.
Zcash will activate the Ironwood network upgrade on Tuesday, which will introduce new privacy features and quantitative recovery capabilities.
ZEC is facing reduced demand from the retail sector, with open interest in ZEC futures falling to 1.87 million ZEC.
Zcash gains (ZEC) fell to below $500 on Monday, affected by broader cryptocurrency market fluctuations. The privacy-focused digital asset had reached highs of around $589 in mid-July, supported by increased interest from retail investors and a strong technical foundation.
Zcash looks to regain quantum data security with the Ironwood network upgrade
Zcash announced that the Ironwood network update will be rolled out on Tuesday. Ironwood will add a new protected dataset to address a serious security vulnerability in forgery, discovered by researcher Taylor Hornby on May 29 in the current protected Orchard dataset.
After the software upgrade, new protected transactions and outputs will be routed directly to Ironwood with verification of their integrity, a separate commitment tree, and value pool tracking.
Node operators will be able to independently verify the circulating supply of ZEC by adding active sets. The Ironwood system caps the maximum supply of 21 million ZEC immediately once it is activated, while providing proofs of any exploitation during the transfer process. This means that counterfeit funds will be frozen or revealed when an attempt is made to withdraw them.
Ironwood papers are stored by default in a plaintext format recoverable by quantum computing. If quantum computing breaks current encryption methods, the trading pool can be paused to facilitate recovery of user funds. However, this feature does not make Zcash itself fully quantum-resistant at this time.
With the Ironwood update, Zcash is expected to regain security and trust after the challenges the network faced in May. It is worth noting that user funds were not affected, as there is no evidence of any exploitation. This update aims to protect Zcash’s superior position in privacy-focused and verifiable transactions.
Despite the positive outlook for Ironwood software, demand from consumers is still declining, as reflected by the open interest in futures contracts, which averaged 1.87 million units of ZEC on Monday, down from 1.90 million units the previous day. This ongoing pullback in consumer interest may limit the coin’s ability to recover.

- Price analysis: ZEC tests key support
ZEC price trades below $500, while maintaining a positive bullish bias, as the price stays above the short-, mid-, and long-term exponential moving averages (EMAs), roughly clustered between $490 and $411. Also, the SuperTrend indicator at $436 is far below the market, reinforcing the key support zone after the recent rebound from below the $490 levels.
Momentum has weakened as the Relative Strength Index (RSI) falls below the midline on the daily chart, and the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) remains bearish, indicating that the advance is losing steam but has not yet reversed, while price movement stays above these levels.
Daily chart of the ZEC/USDT pair
Initial resistance is at the $520 psychological level, followed by the bearish trendline breakout zone near $566, where previous rallies repeatedly stalled. A clear daily close above this barrier is needed to reopen the path toward higher highs. On the downside, immediate support sits at the 50-day EMA around $490, followed by the 100-day EMA at $462, then the super trendline at $436. Continued movement below these levels would weaken the current bullish structure and expose the 200-day EMA at $411 as the next major bearish target.
