ETH 1. Ethereum vs. Ether (ETH)

People often use the terms interchangeably, but there is a distinct difference:
Ethereum: The underlying blockchain network — a global, decentralized computer system maintained by thousands of devices around the world.
Ether (ETH): The cryptocurrency used to power that network. Every transaction, interaction with an app, or execution of code on Ethereum requires paying a small processing fee in ETH (often called Gas).
