Altman will meet with officials from the Trump administration this week, focusing on showcasing the capabilities of the new AI model.
PANews July 27 report: CNBC reports that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman will meet this week with senior officials in the Trump administration, senators, and economists, focusing on demonstrating the capabilities of an upcoming new-generation AI model, and answering questions about his position on network security and open-weight (open‑weight) models. The report says that open-weight models from China, such as Moonshot AI, are rapidly catching up with U.S. closed-source products, sparking debate over whether China’s models should be restricted from being accessible in the U.S. In a joint letter, companies including Nvidia, Microsoft, Meta, and Palantir urged regulators to avoid “prematurely restricting” open-weight models. Altman is also expected to provide an explanation regarding OpenAI models “jailbreaking” and attacking Hugging Face in testing environments, and to brief policymakers on the impact of multi-agent “AI teams” on labor productivity and how long-term tasks are carried out.
