Crypto Market Today: Ethereum Leads Gains as Easing US-Iran Tensions Lift Sentiment

The cryptocurrency market moved higher on July 27 as easing geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran boosted investor confidence. Lower oil prices helped improve risk appetite, although traders remain cautious ahead of the Federal Reserve's July 28–29 policy meeting.

Ethereum Leads the Rally

Ethereum was the strongest performer among the top 10 cryptocurrencies, climbing more than 4% to around $1,957, its highest level since early June. The rally was fueled by optimism that the U.S. and Iran could continue diplomatic talks after temporarily halting military strikes.

Among all major tokens, Pump fun (PUMP) posted the biggest gain, surging 18% to approximately $0.0021. Meanwhile, Shiba Inu (SHIB) was the day's biggest loser among the top 30 cryptocurrencies, falling 9% as traders took profits following its recent rally driven by a sharp increase in the token's burn rate.

Market Drivers

Improving geopolitical conditions were the main catalyst for today's gains. Oil prices declined significantly after reports of positive discussions between Iran and Oman regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz, easing concerns over global energy supplies.

Another notable development came from Strategy, which announced a $25 million STRC preferred stock buyback while increasing its cash reserves to $3.75 billion. The news pushed both STRC and MSTR shares higher.

Market Snapshot

The total cryptocurrency market capitalization rose 1.07% to approximately $2.23 trillion, while 24-hour trading volume reached $55.45 billion.

Bitcoin traded near $65,084, gaining about 1%, while Ethereum climbed above $1,950. XRP also posted modest gains, holding around $1.10.

Bitcoin dominance stood at 58.6%, Ethereum dominance increased to 10.6%, and the Altcoin Season Index improved to 56, suggesting broader participation across the market.

Meanwhile, total liquidations reached approximately $299 million, with short sellers accounting for the majority of losses as rising prices forced bearish positions to close. The Crypto Fear & Greed Index remained in the "Fear" zone at 30.

What to Watch

Investors are now focused on the Federal Reserve's July 28–29 meeting, which could shape the market's next major move. Current expectations suggest a 66% probability that interest rates will remain unchanged, while roughly 33% of investors still expect a rate hike.

Markets will also watch the upcoming U.S. Consumer Confidence report, as stronger-than-expected economic data could influence future Federal Reserve policy expectations.
