AIMPACT message, April 28 (UTC+8). Microsoft and OpenAI make a major adjustment to their cooperation model. Microsoft will no longer have exclusive access to OpenAI’s models and products; OpenAI can now offer its products and services to any cloud provider. This marks a major change in the cooperation landscape between the two: Microsoft had previously been the exclusive cloud services provider and technology licensing partner for OpenAI, but under the new agreement, OpenAI is now free to cooperate with other large companies. Even so, Microsoft still retains its stake in OpenAI (valued at over $135 billion) and will continue to use OpenAI technology through a licensing agreement running until 2032.
