Breaking the internet! Musk predicts money will be worthless by 2036—will $BTC become the only lifeline?
Bro, how many more years can the fiat currency in your hand hold up? Musk just dropped a nuclear bomb: by 2036, money won’t matter anymore.
This isn’t bar-stool talk—he said it himself in an interview with Zanny Minton Beddoes, editor-in-chief of The Economist. He predicts that over the next decade the world will enter a state of “incredible abundance,” where robots become so widespread that there are more goods and services than humans can consume—then what do you need money for? To buy food? A place to live? Transportation? Entertainment? Robots will cover it all.
This prophecy sounds like fantasy, but don’t forget who’s speaking—the captain of SpaceX and Tesla, a tech madman worth about $700 billion. His SpaceX holds 18,712 $BTC , and Tesla holds 11,509. At $65k each, the total value is close to $2 billion.
You might wonder if Musk is giving himself a buy-order call on his holdings. But he’s said even harsher things on X: “Energy is the real currency.” Bitcoin is based on energy; fiat currency can be printed at will, but energy can’t be forged. This pins down the logic of $BTC.
Look at Bitcoin’s current predicament: after falling below $65k in February, it has been trading sideways in a range ever since. Market sentiment is tight, like strings on a instrument. The CEO of Goldman Sachs suddenly spoke up in support of Bitcoin as the “ultimate catalyst,” but sentiment hasn’t warmed up. $BTC is accelerating toward a major turning point that could be worth $2.79 quadrillion—and Musk’s prediction is like a scalpel, cutting back open people’s understanding of the nature of money.
Why energy? The electricity consumed each year by $BTC’s miner network is equivalent to the power usage of a small country; the more the price rises, the more miners there are, and the higher the energy demand climbs. This perfectly echoes “energy as money.” Musk has also said that AI’s “global arms race” is the reason why gold, silver, and $BTC all rise together. Although $BTC later pulled back, some people believe the bottom has already been confirmed.
He now prefers Dogecoin more, but he hasn’t given up on $BTC. After leaving White House affairs, he said directly that the “Republican Party” would favor $BTC over the dollar, because the dollar and other fiat currencies are all “hopeless” debt-driven products.
Brothers, if you’re still stuck worrying about short-term K-line charts, you might miss the bigger game. Musk isn’t predicting—he’s describing an incoming paradigm shift: when machines and AI take over production, all debt-based currencies will lose their anchor, and only digital assets deeply tied to energy—like $BTC—can truly preserve value.
The fiat currency in your hand still has 11 years of shelf life.
