Last year, there were many projects or platforms working on U cards, and it was lively and bustling.
By the end of the year, many projects/platforms had pivoted. I opened 2 U cards, but they’re no longer usable anymore~
U cards are definitely very convenient for friends who play crypto in China or who often travel abroad.
Recently, Gate Card upgraded its payment capabilities and optimized the application flow experience, and I opened my 3rd U card~
✅ First, I’ll summarize the advantages after using it:
1、Supports domestic users—just apply with your phone +86, no address proof required!!!
2、No need for additional KYC—you can use it directly with CEX accounts.
3、Supports Apple Pay, Google Pay, Alipay, and Meituan.
4、The exchange rate is also pretty good, with a conversion fee of 0.9%, which is acceptable.
5、Spending cashback is 8%—the more you spend, the more you get back (there’s a monthly cashback cap per card). Actually, this part isn’t that different from others.
▶️Let me briefly introduce the process—basically it’s just “see it, do it”: confirm/next step directly and you’re good:
1、On the Gate App, search for Gate Card at the top.
2、Top up to the card (supports USDT, USDC, BTC, ETH). Card issuance is 2.005u. For the first top-up, at least 10u—just top up 13u directly.
Fill in employment information (you can just pick/fill anything).
3、For confirming the card info: it automatically links to the CEX KYC info. You only need to add your birth year and month and your city (in pinyin).
4、After submitting, you can check the result in just a few minutes.
5、In Gate Card management, you can switch to Pay within the app.
💡 If your application fails, update the ID information used for account verification—ID card info and face—and then apply again.
Overall, it’s still very convenient and fast.
After experiencing one time when my card was frozen, I don’t do in/out transfers easily anymore. For everyday spending, if a U card is usable, I basically use it, and it also happened to bridge me through the 2 months when my other U cards were cut off.
